IOWA CITY – A Webster City man who killed a teen with a hatchet before lighting him on fire died in his prison cell.

The Iowa Department of Corrections said that Lucas Allen Faulkner, age 25 and an inmate assigned to the Iowa Medical and Classification Center, died Friday February 20, 2015. Prison staff were summoned to Faulkner’s assigned cell at 11:18 PM on February 19, 2015 and discovered Faulkner unresponsive in the assigned cell. During assessment of vitals, Faulkner stopped breathing. Emergency protocols, including CPR, were immediately implemented. Results of the autopsy determined that Faulkner died of natural causes from Pulmonary Embolism.

Faulkner was serving a life sentence from Wright County for Murder First Degree. This sentence began on May 16, 2011. Faulkner murdered Devin Resh of Eagle Grove at a campsite by striking him over and over with a hatchet and then burning him.

  1. Well now, at least he didn’t live off the taxpayer dollar for 40 or 50 years (while the families of the victims get to help pay for the continued life of free room and board)

it has been said it is
“cheaper to house criminals of heinous crimes than to execute” I am glad I don’t have those math geniuses working on my taxes…..
