Iowa law enforcement closing in on suspect who shot Iowa man dead

gunBURLINGTON – Iowa law enforcement agencies are narrowing their search for a suspect who shot an Iowa man multiple times, leaving him dead.

During the course of a homicide investigation that was initiated on February 16, 2015, Burlington Police have been searching for a black SUV that was present at the time of a shooting/homicide incident at 7th and Elm in that city. Detectives have received information from several social media outlets including Facebook and Burlington Area Crime Stoppers.

As a result of these collaborative efforts, officers have located the black SUV that was being sought in relation to the shooting. This vehicle has been taken to the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI) Crime Lab in Ankeny for further analysis.

In addition to the continued processing of that vehicle, investigators have received preliminary autopsy results from the University of Iowa. Preliminary results indicate that the victim, Deonte Raynell Carter, age 24, of Burlington, died as a result of multiple gunshots to his upper torso.

The investigation surrounding the circumstances that led to the shooting death of Carter is ongoing and additional details will continue to be released as they become available.

The Burlington Police Department continues to urge the community to utilize social media outlets to provide information regarding any criminal activity and thanks the community for its continued involvement and support. The Burlington Police Department continues to be assisted in this investigation by the Iowa Department of Public Safety’s (DPS) Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI) and it’s Iowa DCI Crime Lab.
