Women’s basketball
What’s next: The No. 8 NIACC women’s basketball team (18-4, 7-1) hosts DMACC (16-9, 4-4) Wednesday in an ICCAC contest. Game time is set for 5:30 p.m. in the NIACC gym.
NIACC topped DMACC 95-87 on Jan. 14 in Boone in the first meeting between the two teams.
Last time out: NIACC topped No. 3 Kirkwood 84-71 in Cedar Rapids on Saturday. Sophomore Sierra Ford-Washington scored 35 points and Logan Anderson scored 21 points to lead the Lady Trojans.
The home loss by Kirkwood last Saturday was just the 27th home loss by the Eagles in the last 26 seasons.
Among the nation’s best: NIACC averages 84.6 points per game, which ranks first among NJCAA Division II teams. The Lady Trojans rank fourth in NJCAA Division II with 201 3-point goals.
Among the league leaders: Ford-Washington leads the ICCAC in scoring averaging 22.5 points per game. Anderson ranks third in the league in scoring (17.0 ppg.) Also, Ford-Washington is second in the league in steals (58) and Onaca is tied for fourth in the league with 40 steals. Savannah Lentz is fourth in the league in 3-point goals (55) and Anderson ranks fifth (51).

DMACC topped NIACC 88-51 on Jan. 14 in Boone in the first meeting between the two teams.
Last time out: The Trojans dropped a 88-70 decision to No. 11 Kirkwood on Saturday. Al Davis led the Trojans with 16 points and Braxton Williams scored 13 points.
Among the league leaders: Al Davis ranks fourth in the ICCAC with 115 assists. Braxton Williams ranks second in the league in steals (54) and Davis ranks fourth in steals (51). Conor Lang ranks fifth in the league in 3-point goals with 56.

Wrestling
What’s next: The No. 6 NIACC wrestling team returns to action Saturday at the NJCAA North Central district meet in Worthington, Minn. The NJCAA national meet is set for Feb. 27-28 in Des Moines.
In the rankings: NIACC’s Nosomy Pozo (25-6) is ranked first at 149 pounds and Yoanse Mejias (26-3) is ranked second at 157 pounds. Also, Paul Mascarenas (19-8) is seventh at 125 pounds, Shiquan Hall (24-7) is ninth at 133 pounds, Quincy Kalkbrenner (16-7) is 11th at 165 pounds and Lawrence Phillips (15-4) is sixth at 285 pounds.
Did you know? That NIACC coach Steve Kelly has coached 14 all-Americans since taking over the Trojan wrestling program in the 2010 season.
Indoor track and field
What’s next: The NIACC men’s and women’s track and field teams return to action Saturday at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville Invitational.
Last time out: The NIACC women’s track and field team set three school records at the Grinnell Invitational and was the team champion with 88 points. Sophomore Adrine Monagi set school records in the 60-meter dash (7.71 seconds) and the 60-hurdles (9.16) and the 4×400-meter relay team of Monagi, Ellen Padmore, Morgan Meyer and Kalama Towarap set a school record in a time of 4:07.92
Highlights for the NIACC men at Grinnell were Trey Simons and Oryiane Espeut placing first and second in the 600 in times of 1:24.14 and 1:24.68, respectively.
Among the nation’s best: Palmeter ranks second nationally in the mile (5:09.87) and third in the 3,000 (10:31.95), Monagi ranks third nationally in the indoor pentathlon (3,245 points) and ninth in the 60 (7.71), LaBrisha Michael ranks fourth in the shot put (13.67 meters) and ninth in the weight throw (14.77 meters, and Rellie Kaputin ranks 10th in the high jump (1.67 meters) and ninth in the long jump (5.60 meters). For the NIACC men, Simons ranks 13th in the 800 (1:56.57), Imad Amenzou ranks 16th in the 1,000 (2:36.79), John Enright is 25th in the 600 (1:23.15) and the Trojans’ 4×800 relay composite time ranks third (8:01.02).
