IOWA CITY – Iowa got its fourth win over a ranked opponent this season when it beat Maryland at home 71-55.
Aaron White led Iowa with 17 points while Adam Woodbury scored 16. Maryland could not contain Iowa early in the contest as the Hawkeyes built an insurmountable lead of 22-3 to start the game. Peter Jok tied his career high with 15 points.
Iowa coach Fran McCaffery credit the team’s defense for th win.
“It’s great defense in the first 10 minutes,” McCaffery said, that led to the big lead. “They shot 24 percent in the first half. This is a terrific team. It’s not normally going to do that.”
The win marks Iowa’s 1000th home victory. The Hawkeyes are 1000-351 in home games dating back to 1902. Iowa is 14-1 this year when scoring 64+ points, with the lone loss coming to Iowa St. (90-75)
Aaron White is now No. 7 on Iowa’s all-time career scoring list (1,647). He moves ahead of Matt Gatens.
