Trial of Charles City man on sex abuse charges set for March 10

CHARLES CITY – The trial of a Charles City man accused of numerous sex crimes and indecent contact with a child is now set for March.

Jeff Devries, age 50, has been charged by Floyd county prosecutors with five counts of sexual abuse in the second degree and five counts of indecent contact with a child. The crimes allegedly took place beginning in June of 2013, with the latest incident as late as August 1, 2014. He was to stand trial on January 27 after a number of continuances, but his lawyer asked for a delay, and judge Dedra Schroeder granted it.

Devries was arrested on August 7, booked, and released from jail under the supervision of the Iowa Department of Corrections as he awaits his trial. In October of 2014, his attorney objected to an application by the prosecution to allow the child alleged victim to submit depositions via closed-circuit television. The motion failed.
