Mason City woman jailed, hospitalized after theft incident

MASON CITY – A woman who was caught stealing from Wal-Mart Friday afternoon was soon rushed to the Mercy emergency room.

Mason City police were called the the Wal-Mart Super Center, 1000 4th Street SW, at about 2:38 PM after loss prevention reported a female shoplifter. Police arrived and took 35-year-old Teresa Pennington to jail on a charge of aggravated misdemeanor third degree theft. She was booked into the jail at 3:30 PM.

At just before 4:00 PM, Pennington was transported to the Mercy emergency room for undisclosed reasons.

Pennington pleaded guilty on January 6, 2014 to third degree theft.

At this time, Pennington is accused of felony possession of methamphetamine after she was stopped Wednesday morning, November 26, at about 3:17 AM as she drove her green 1996 Ford Explorer near 19th Street SW and Benjamin Avenue. A Cerro Gordo county deputy recognized her as a suspended driver and initiated the traffic stop. As a result of the traffic stop and further investigations, Pennington was arrested for driving under suspension, no insurance, possession of methamphetamine 3rd offense and possession of contraband. Pennington pleaded not guilty and awaits a February 24 jury trial.
