Investigation now underway after man shoots himself as police pursed

investigateJOHNSON COUNTY, IOWA – An investigation is underway after an Iowa man shot himself while law enforcement officers chased him.

The preliminary investigation shows that both Bradley Wayne McNeese and the Johnson County Sheriff’s Deputy discharged their weapons. The preliminary investigation also shows that McNeese was injured by a self-inflicted gunshot wound. This investigation is on-going at this time.

On October 13, 2014, Johnson County Sheriff’s deputies attempted to locate a suicidal subject identified as Bradley Wayne McNeese, age 32. McNeese was located near Swisher, Iowa, by Johnson County deputies and Iowa State Patrol Troopers. McNeese fled the area and a vehicle chase ensued. The pursuit came to an end near the intersection of Sandy Beach Road and Lake Manor Road. McNeese was injured and transported to the University of Iowa Hospital for a gunshot wound. No officers were injured during the incident.

The Division of Criminal Investigation has been requested to conduct a thorough and impartial investigation. The investigation is on-going at this time. Further information will be released when it becomes available.

Pursuant to the Johnson County Sheriff’s policy, the deputy involved has been placed on paid administrative leave. The name of the deputy involved is not being released at this time.
