Fortes’ hat trick leads NIACC past Wartburg JV, 3-1

niacc_trojans_logoWAVERLY – The NIACC men’s soccer team topped the Wartburg College junior varsity 3-1 Monday night.

Freshman Kevin Fortes recorded a hat trick for the Trojans (1-2 overall).
Freshman midfielder Justin Warren and sophomore keeper Nathan Spores assisted on two of Fortes’ three goals.

Fortes has scored all five of NIACC’s goals this season. He scored one in the season opener against Century College and also scored in last Sunday’s match against Oakton Community College.

NIACC led 1-0 at the half.

NIACC improved to 5-1 all-time against the Wartburg junior varsity.

NIACC returns to action Sept. 10 at No. 1 Iowa Western in its ICCAC opener.

Notes – NIACC coach Jonathan Platt has a career record of 11-24-1 … Platt is 1-0 against the Wartburg JV … NIACC is 3-19-3 against Iowa Western … Platt is 0-5 against Iowa Western … NIACC’s last win against Iowa Western was a 1-0 win in the 2011 regular season … Also in 2011, Iowa Western topped NIACC 1-0 in double overtime in the NJCAA Region XI title match.
