CEDAR RAPIDS – NIACC sophomore Hannah Palmeter placed second at the Mount Mercy Mustang Gallop 4-kilometer run Friday in a school record time of 14 minutes, 34 seconds.
Palmeter broke the school mark of 14:47 held by Anna Buenneke at the 2011 Mustang Gallop.
The NIACC women placed fifth out of seven teams with 111 points. Cornell was the team champion with 48 points and Iowa Central was fourth with 75 points.
Also for the NIACC women, Alyssa Cowan was ninth in 15:38, Lattie Crozier was 22nd in 16:22, Leta Jaquis was 51st in 18:46 and Taylor Glawe was 58th in 19:11.
Cowan’s time of 15:38 is the third-fastest 4K time in school history.
Cornell’s Sanjuania Martin was the women’s individual champion in a time of 14:26.
The NIACC men placed third out of seven teams with 71 points. Iowa Central Blue was the men’s champion with 35 points and Iowa Central Blue was second with 43 points.
NIACC freshman Trey Simons placed third in his first collegiate race with a 5-kilometer time of 15:31. NIACC sophomore Jaime Zarate was fourth in a personal-best 5K time of 15:34.
Also for the NIACC men, freshman Colby Kraninger was 16th (16:16), freshman Imod Amenzou was 19th (16:18) and sophomore Ricky Jeray was 33rd (17:00).
