IOWA CITY – A Hills, Iowa man stands accused of striking a pregnant woman with his SUV and then leaving her injured at the scene.
According to police, 56-year-old Ronnie Lee West of Hills struck the woman on Melrose Avenue as the women had just gotten off a public transit bus on the evening on May 1. West left the scene in his gray Toyota 4Runner. Eyewitnesses gave police a license plate, and West was tracked down by police. He allegedly told officers he know he should have stopped to help. The woman had an injured leg and possible internal injuries and was taken to a hospital.
West was charged with leaving the scene of an accident, a serious misdemeanor, and jailed.
