CHARLES CITY – The Charles City Fire Department is seeking candidates for the position of Volunteer Firefighter. The purpose of the Volunteer Firefighter is to provide excellent response to various emergencies in the City of Charles City and surrounding areas. The position requires the Volunteer Firefighter to attend meetings and trainings twice per month, and respond to emergencies when called upon. There is much training involved if the candidate is included into the volunteer department. Qualifications
Must be 18 years of age. Must possess, or be able to obtain an Iowa Driver’s License. Must have no criminal convictions. Must be a United States citizen or have applied for citizenship and obtain citizenship within six months after inclusion into the department.
Special Requirements
Must be able to successfully meet all of the requirements of the volunteer department’s bylaws including an interview, background check, medical clearance by a physician, physical agility test, Firefighter 1 certification, hazmat operations certification, and CPR certification. Certifications not required at the time of placement on the department, as training will be provided.
Miscellaneous Information
Application to the department at this time is to create a list of prospective Volunteer Firefighters. No testing is anticipated at this time, but may become necessary in the future. The City of Charles City is an equal opportunity employer.
