MASON CITY – A local woman was in trouble this weekend after an auto accident and a run in with a police officer.

According to Mason City police, Nikki Sue Smith, age 36, allegedly rear-ended another vehicle near the 2600 block of 4th Street SW.  The incident took place at about 1:32 PM.  Smith then left the scene of the accident after telling the driver of the other vehicle that she had no insurance.

Police then sought Smith, and she was found driving her car near her home at the 900 block of South Illinois Avenue a short time later.  When Smith was pulled over by a Mason City police officer, she became belligerent and uncooperative, according to police, and she was arrested and taken to jail.

Smith was charged with driving while license suspended or revoked and interference with official acts.  She was soon released from jail.

Court records were incomplete on showing a court date for Smith in this case.
