MASON CITY – The NIACC men’s soccer team topped Indian Hills 4-3 Tuesday in the opening round of the NJCAA Region XI tournament at the NIACC soccer field.
Sophomore Nako Omot (Worthington, Minn.) scored the game-winning goal with an assist from freshman Matthew Stewart (Lake Worth, Fla.) with 15 minutes, 32 seconds left in the contest.
Omot also scored NIACC’s second goal of the contest at the 35:11 mark of the first half to give the Trojans a 2-0 lead. Sophomore Tim Roberts (Sydney, Australia) put the Trojans in front 1-0 on an assist from sophomore Leo Driscoll (Huddersfield, UK) at the 38:55 mark of the first half.
Indian Hills (4-14), however, tied the contest at 2-2 at the half and took a 3-2 lead with 28:44 remaining in the contest.
Driscoll tied the contest at 3-3 with 19:40 to go in the match on an assist from Stewart.
About four minutes later, Omot found the back of the net to help the Trojans (6-10 overall) advance to Saturday’s noon semifinal contest against No. 1 Iowa Western (18-0 overall) in Des Moines.
