IOWA CITY – Iowa football coach Kirk Ferentz said Tuesday that a bye week was just what his team needed coming off a tough home loss to Michigan State and entering an even stiffer test Saturday on the road, facing Ohio State.
“You know, bye week came at a good time,” Ferentz said. “We’re at least thus far healthy and will hopefully get through this week without any incidents. ”
A rest week helped his team recover and prepare for a highly-ranked opponent in the Buckeyes.
“We would have been in a little bit of trouble if we played Saturday. Fortunately, we didn’t,” Ferentz explained. “Based on what we saw over the weekend, looks like everybody’s ready to go. ”
Ferentz spoke on the media frenzy he created when he said after last week’s loss to Michigan State that his teams may not return punts any longer. The Hawkeyes had been burned by a fake punt in that game.
“I’m not real interested in seeing another fake. So whatever it takes to stop the fake, we’ll do that.”
