Mason City school levies pass

MASON CITY – Preliminary results from the school levies sought by the Mason City School District shows that the two measures have passed.

According to totals posted by the Cerro Gordo County Auditor’s Office, the Instructional Support Levy passed 1,895 to 1,426 while the Physical Plant and Equipment Levy passed 1,928 to 1,383.

A strong supporter and volunteer for the “yes” votes on the levies told NIT Tuesday night that the passing of the levies was “a huge positive for our community.”

Mason City School Superintendent Anita Micich told NIT late Tuesday that “We want to thank this community for believing in education for all kids!  We are grateful for your support today and for the future.  With your help Weare Moving Forward Together with our Mason City Schools!  Great communities equal Great Schools!  Today was a win for our kids! ”

I can’t believe how many people ran for school board this time, it was nice to see a full slate of incumbants and challengers….oh wait, that was Charles City.

Is the broad worth 720 dollars per day plus all the benefits plus 7 grand in perks (thats at 252 days per year for the average private citizen – whith all the breaks and a 146 day contract its about what 900 bucks per day she’s charging us lemmings ?

SCHOOL BOARD MEMBERS = LEMMINGS

I am pretty sure I put a comment on there this morning. It could have been in a dream. Anyway, I will try again… Congratulations on this awesome victory!!!

As I said before– if all the bitchers were voters, this would have been voted down in spades…

That’s the way it goes….

It’s too bad that there was such a low voter turnout. More money is not the answer. Raises and poor use of funds is what we will get for our higher property taxes. What are we up to on the high school remodel now, $50 million? And NO NEW SWIMMING POOL INCLUDED!?!

Am waiting to see plans & solutions from Matt. So far have seen nothing other than all his crazy info slamming the current council persons and especially the ones for re-election. Come on Matt. Tell us your ideas and plans instead of the same old garbage against the council.

ANY comments from Matt other than negative and nasty complaints from him whether it’s about the council, school board, supervisors, etc. This site is completely one-sided. If you disagree with Matt, your comments get deleted or you get banned from his site. It’s easy to keep things slanted the way you want them if you have the ability to delete or ban.

Nancy, have a Snickers….You really aren’t yourself when you are hungry.

@Matt Marquardt-Nancy is just another hater that is out to stir up crap. There are several here and are really not worth the time to answer.

Won’t see Jack McCourt for awhile !

Whew! I’m glad they passed that thingy- I only make 500 dollars per day plus benifits – I hope we can get to a thousand dollars per day in the next 10 years. Thanks again lemmings.

Its not the outcome I wanted and then to see the pic of Michich praising god on the front page of the glob makes me sick. Wait till you see the raises that these guys give themselves next year.

@USMCSSG-she should be praising god. She was probably about to lose her cushy 180K job.

Do a little research. The average salary for a superintendent is 150,000 for just one district. She is in charge of not one but two districts. Her salary is right in line with where it should be. Clear Lake is now looking at getting their own superintendent which I am guessing would drop Mrs. Micich salary down to where it should be. Again just a guess

@Good Question-Clear Lake probably can’t afford her either.

It’s a possibility. My guess is they want someone who is more involved with their district and who can blame them.

Quess who the Mayor will be with 15% turnout?

Guess who the mayor will be with no viable opponent?

FINALLY!!!!

So since it passed, how do you, as a future city council member, where was your stance on this issue? Do you support it or not?

Whew! It makes me happy to see a majority of voters still want to do right by kids.

Yes! Spend more money and take it out of the pockets of their parents.

Spending more is always the answer.

WATCH THOSE SCHOOLS PERFORM NOW!!

I’m not sure if you are aware that every year we have declining numbers its less funding from the state/government for schools. It’s less money to be spent on the children. Why do you think so many of the smaller schools have combined their students? More money! However it is also more money for those parents, busing, driving, taxes, etc…. Mason City is not alone in this trend. Iowa as a whole has had declining numbers every year from 1972 on, with the exception of a slight incline in the 1998-1999 school year.

Are you ignoring the fact this Board will end up with an $8 million surplus this year?

@Observer-Less students equals less money and less facility’s required. Why do they continue to hire more and more staff when there should be less and less.

LVS, that is a question the Board must address, not this casual observer.
