Man arrested for threatening CBP Officer at port

Del Rio, Texas – A Del Rio man faces federal charges after making threats against a U.S. Customs and Border Protection officer during a routine inspection at the Del Rio Port of Entry last week.

“Our CBP officers at the ports of entry perform a vital role in our nation’s security,” said Michael Perez, port director, Del Rio. “Any threats made to them while carrying out their duties absolutely will not be tolerated.”

At 7:45 a.m. Tuesday, a CBP officer was inspecting a 2003 Ford pickup truck when the driver became belligerent and began cursing and threatening the officer. When a supervisor was called to assist, the driver, a 51-year-old Del Rio man, continued to use profanity toward the officers and made additional threats.

The case was turned over to U.S. Customs and Border Protection Internal Affairs and the Federal Bureau of Investigation for federal prosecution on a charge of threatening a federal officer, 18 USC § 111(A)(1). The driver’s 7-year-old son, who was with him at the time of the incident, was released to a family member, along with his vehicle.
