(Des Moines) This fall State Senator Amanda Ragan of Mason City will look for ways to improve Iowa health care by studying what has worked well in other states.

Ragan is one of 10 legislators chosen to serve on the Iowa Legislature’s “Integrated Health Care Modules and Multi-payer Delivery Systems Study Committee.”

“Finding the best approaches to improving health care and reducing costs is not easy,” said Ragan. “We will look at what is working in other states, listen to Iowa and national experts, and then offer recommendations for the 2014 session of the Iowa Legislature to consider.”

Ragan is the chair of the Senate Human Resources Committee. Along with Republican House Majority Leader Linda Upmeyer, she helped win passage of the Iowa Health and Wellness Plan in 2013. This new health insurance plan will provide health care security to tens of thousands of working Iowans, help control health care costs for every Iowan, and put the focus on prevention and improving the health of Iowans.

“Every Iowa legislator is interested in improving our health care system,” said Ragan. “Access to affordable health care makes Iowa a more attractive place to live, work and raise a family. The key is paying attention to what works and making adjustments when needed.

In preparation, Senator Ragan asks interested local residents who have suggestions to contact her at (641) 424-0874 or amanda.ragan@legis.iowa.gov.

Senator Ragan represents Senate District 27, which includes the counties of Franklin, part of Butler and most of Cerro Gordo County. The district is home to the cities of Ackley, Alexander, Allison, Aredale, Bradford, Bristow, Burchinal, Chapin, Clarksville, Clear Lake, Coulter, Dows, Dumont, Geneva, Greene, Hampton, Hansell, Latimer, Mason City, Meservey, Popejoy, Rockwell, Sheffield, Swaledale, Thornton, and Ventura.

  1. I have an answer on how to make health care more affordable, Keep the Governenment out of it! It is not constitutional on the State or Federal level.

Spend your time on fixing the roads, bridges and infrustucture and stay out of the Health care business.

  2. I will give you one easy way to improve our health care system….. Quit eating so damn much food!!!!! Obesity costs America approximately 190 BILLION dollars annually. That’s right…190 BILLION dollars. Smoking costs America 96 BILLION dollars a year in health care costs!!! It is pretty simple, People!! Get off your couch, put the bag of chips, beer, and cigarettes down and take care of yourself!!!

  3. @????-I understand it just fine. When I said she says nothing I meant it. She runs off at the mouth and never tells the truth. Don’t need a libraterd idiot telling me what I know. But out.
