Border Patrol apprehends murderer, rapist at separate locations

New Mexico – El Paso Sector U.S. Border Patrol agents working in the southwest quadrant of New Mexico apprehended two convicted felons within a two-day period this week.

On Tuesday, July 23, Border Patrol agents assigned to the Santa Teresa Border Patrol Station apprehended three subjects who made an illegal entry into the U.S. near Sunland Park, N.M. Once in custody, agents transported the subjects to the processing center where biographical and biometrical information was enrolled into the Integrated Automated Fingerprint Identification System—IAFIS. IAFIS revealed that one of the subjects, identified as 66-year-old Valdemar Rodriguez Chaidez of Mexico, has a criminal record to include the rape of a child under 14 years of age. Chaidez is also identified as a registered sex offender. The subject has been charged with Re-entry after Deportation, and was remanded to the custody of the Dona Ana County Detention Center pending prosecution.

The following day, Border Patrol agents assigned to the Deming Border Patrol Station arrested a subject identified as 31-year-old Luis Carlos Castro Gomez, of Mexico. Record checks revealed an extensive criminal history to include (but not limited to) a murder conviction in Illinois, in 1999. Gomez has been charged with Re-entry after Deportation, and remanded to the custody of the Luna County Sheriff’s Office pending prosecution.

These latest arrests demonstrate the vigilance of U.S. Border Patrol Agents along the southwest border, and their commitment to stop criminals and criminal activity from infiltrating the fabric of communities throughout west Texas and New Mexico.
