The following is the official statement from the Family of Michael J. Cisneros, who has been transported to Mason City after being accused by authorities in the death of John Joseph Snyder Jr., who was 20 months old in 1994 when he went missing. After a lengthy investigation, DNA evidence has tied Cisneros to the murder of the child.

At the center of this issue, is a young child whose life ended in tragedy. On behalf of the immediate and extended family of Michael J. Cisneros, we would like to respectfully express our deepest and sincere sympathies to the family of John Snyder, Jr. Furthermore, we are in shock to learn about the arrest of our son, brother, cousin, nephew, and we would ask that the media refrain from contacting any family members seeking information and/or comment. Please allow the justice system to run its course and render its judgment and respect our privacy at this time.
