MASON CITY – A Mason City man awaiting sentencing for a vehicular homicide charge was sought by Mason City police after an incident Friday in East Park.
Jason Glenn Genzler, 34, was in East Park near Kentucky Avenue Friday just after 4 PM, following a group of teens who were playing frisbee golf. According to bystanders, Genzler recognized one of the youths, who claimed to be a Mason City High School student, and became angry.
Genzler began to raise his voice and pursue the young man, eventually calling on others to join him and even suggested at one point that his wife, Laura Genzler – who was on the scene with at least three children – “beat up” the young man.
Laura Genzler, who was approaching as the scene unfolded, yelled “What’s up bitch, you better run!” at the youth.
Jason Genlzer had backed off briefly before removing his shirt and sprinting about 50 meters towards the young man, who had walked away from Genzler. Genzler got very close to the young man but did not touch him.
About 5 minutes later, Mason City police arrived in the park and Genzler ran away, crossing Kentucky Avenue eastbound on foot.
“The dude is crazy,” the young man said a few minutes later, speaking of Genzler. “He just wants money. It’s his way of acting better than me. He’s going to prison on Monday for a long time.”
Genzler is facing a pre-trial conference and sentencing hearing on June 17th for a felony B vehicular homicide charge. The Iowa State Patrol conducted an accident investigation after a one-vehicle accident that took place on May 12, 2012 at 3:15 AM near 20759 Spruce Avenue. John Lybarger, age 33, was killed when the 1997 Dodge pickup he was riding in lost control. The Dodge went into the west ditch, rolled and came to rest on its top. Minda Jones, age 32 and Genzler were injured in the accident.

I know this guy is probably a drug head, and in trouble with the law. But how does he recognize this kid…. probably from his drug deals…and the kid owes money ……read between the liness people, its not to hat hard to figure out. I don’t know either one but it’s not hard to figure out both are trouble .. hopefully this kid gets it figured out before he ends uo like the guy after him!!!!

Upstanding citzen that idiot is. Must give credit to a kid behaving more like a grown man and being the bigger person an just walking away.
