logo_minnesota_twinsDETROIT, May 25 (UPI) — P.J. Walters pitched six efficient innings in his first start of 2013 Saturday and Minnesota broke a 10-game losing streak with a 3-2 win over Detroit.

Walters (1-0) was called up from Class AAA Rochester and responded by limiting the Tigers to two runs on eight hits. The 28-year-old right-hander walked one and struck out three.

Brian Duensing, Josh Roenicke and Jared Burton combined for two scoreless relief frames and Glen Perkins notched his ninth save as Minnesota won for the first time since May 13.

Joe Mauer cracked a solo homer that was held up under video review in the first inning and the Twins added RBI from Justin Morneau and Chris Parmelee.

Tigers starter Doug Fister (5-2) absorbed the loss, surrendering three runs on eight hits over seven frames.

Jhonny Peralta belted a solo homer for Detroit.
