Police called to Starbucks over diaper-changing flap

DENVER, May 19 (UPI) — Police said they responded to a Denver Starbucks after an altercation between an employee and customers who changed their son’s diaper at their table.

Alex Burgos said he and his wife Ruth were getting coffee Mothers’ Day weekend when their 1-year-old son Thiago needed to be changed. Ruth took him to the restroom, only to find there was no changing table, so she changed his diaper at their seat at the coffee shop, KUSA-TV, Denver, reported Sunday.

Burgos said a Starbucks employee tossed a rag to his wife and spoke to her in a “demeaning” tone.

“He said make sure to wipe the seat when you’re done,” he said. “They started talking amongst themselves and laughing about it.”

Burgos said he poured his coffee on the floor in response, and the employees called police. No arrests were made in response to the incident.

Starbucks spokeswoman Jaime Riley said she didn’t know if changing tables would be installed at all coffee shops that lack them, but the company is looking into it.
