Texas teen charged with human trafficking

IRVING, Texas, May 15 (UPI) — A Dallas area high school student is accused of holding a classmate for three days and allowing men to have sex with her, a police spokesman said.

Travis Lekas, 17, of Irving, Texas, faces felony charges that include human trafficking and compelling prostitution and sexual performance by a child, WFAA-TV, Dallas/Fort Worth reported Wednesday.

He is currently jailed on 175,000 bond.

Investigators said Lekas drugged a 15-year-old girl with Alprazolam, marijuana and alcoholic beverages.

During the three-day period she was held at his home, he let men have sex with her “in exchange for U.S. currency and narcotics,” an affidavit said.

Irving Police spokesman John Argumaniz said investigators want to find out how men learned that Lekas was holding the girl.

They are looking for the men who paid to have sex with her and trying to determine whether there are other victims.

“It’s a very disturbing situation,” Argumaniz said.

Police said Lekas tried to recruit other girls from Nimitz High School and even younger ones from Bowie Middle School.

Irving Independent School District said it is cooperating fully with the police investigation.
