WTC spire nears completion, delayed by weather

NEW YORK, April 29 (UPI) — Weather has delayed the installation of the final two pieces of the spire atop One World Trade Center tower in New York, construction officials said.

Once the spire is completed the building will be the tallest in the Western hemisphere at 1,776 feet, CNN said.

The building is already the tallest in New York City, besting the Empire State Building by 21 feet a year ago while One Trade Center was under construction.

The 408-foot sections double as communication rings and a television broadcast antenna for a television studio housed inside the building, the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey said.
