McGee’s Superb Shooting on Display at Final Four

ATLANTA, Ga. – Iowa State senior sharpshooter Tyrus McGee is one of eight players invited to participate in the 2013 State Farm College 3-Point Championship, Thursday April 4th at the Final Four in Atlanta, Ga.

The event, which also includes a slam dunk contest, will be televised nationally on ESPN beginning at 6 p.m. CT. This will be the 25th year of the event, which is always hosted in the site city of the Final Four. This year’s event will be held at the McCamish Pavilion on the campus of Georgia Tech.

A native of Stringtown, Okla., McGee was one of the nation’s best 3-point shooters in 2012-13, leading the country in 3-point percentage (46.4) and ranking 34th nationally in 3-pointers per game (2.7). He led the Big 12 in both categories.

McGee, the 2013 Big 12 Sixth Man of the Year winner and All-Big 12 Honorable Mention selection, drilled 96 3-pointers this year, the third-best season total in ISU history. He made 146 treys in his two-year Cyclone career to tie for fifth all-time in the ISU record book. His career 43.7 percent clip from beyond the arc is the second-best percentage in Cyclone history.

McGee will join his head coach, Fred Hoiberg, as past Cyclone participants in the 3-point contest. Hoiberg competed his senior year in 1995.
