Pre-K teacher allegedly tried to drug kids

MORGAN HILL, Calif., March 23 (UPI) — A California preschool teacher allegedly caught trying to drug children has been charged by police with attempted endangerment and assault.

Deborah Gratz, 59, was working at the Kiddie Academy in Morgan Hill, 20 miles south of San Jose, earlier this month when a fellow teacher allegedly saw her adding Sominex, an over-the-counter sleep aid the manufacturers cautioned is not intended for children 12 or younger, to the children’s water cups. For that, Gratz, who has worked at the school since 2007, is charged with five counts each of attempted child endangerment and assault, police said.

The children never drank the water, the San Francisco Chronicle said Friday.

The newspaper said Gratz was responsible for overseeing 10 children ages 1 and 2.
