Three months after the tragic shooting in Newtown, Connecticut, President Obama says that the Senate has taken important steps forward to help protect our kids by reducing gun violence. The American people made their voices heard, and the Senate made progress to make it harder for criminals and people with serious mental illnesses to get guns, to crack down on anyone trying to funnel guns to criminals, and to reinstate and strengthen a ban on the sale of military-style assault weapons. Each of these ideas deserves a vote. The President urges Congress to pass these commonsense measures while affirming our nation’s tradition of responsible gun ownership.

In “your LaLaLand” that’s might true. But government regulates & limits many things. I.E. Speeding, drunk driving, how many you can be married to, which types of weapons you can carry, length of knives you can carry to name a few. The Constitution gives the “right to bear arms”. The “government regulates” which ones or types and who. Felons can NOT own them. (tho some still do illegally). There was a ban on assault rifles in the past. Where was the outrage when they were banned then?
There are 3 branches of government. Executive,Judicial and LEGISLATIVE. Guess what the LEGISLATIVE does? Maybe you should have paid attention in government class or at least took the class…..
Over the years they have taken away our rights 1 small law at a time so that now it all seems normal. Driving a car is not a right, it is a privilege, there are laws that go along with that to make sure you are doing it right hence speeding. There have also been a few amendments to the bill of rights that sorta contradict the original language but nobody cares because it was for our own good. Back when the Bill of Rights was written the word felon never existed, it was something that they passed later that took away that persons rights and NO I am not a felon. The 3 branches are there to make sure the government doesn’t get too big but then they started getting involved in our lives. Think what you want but we have been losing our rights for years if not decades.

Nothing gets people to comment like gun nuts fearing their weapons might be restricted. They have no problem with taking away freedom from anybody else for pot but God forbid you make their ammo hard to get. You want to know who your real enemy is? It’s the police because they want your guns out of selfishness. They want the power of life and death. It’s a perc of the job.
That’s where you are wrong, in most towns and cities the police believe in the 2nd amendment and will refuse to confisgate any weapons from law abiding citizens, mason city included.

Talking to our chief of police and our sheriff, neither one of them will confisgate any weapons or follow any anti gun laws put out by the government and that’s right out of their mouths and in an email.
maybe I find it very hard to believe that any law enforcement officer said “or follow any anti gun laws put out by the government”. If they sent you an email with that language in it share it with us. I think you have left something out of that statement.
The ones from iowa I cannot remember where I read that but the ones that are very vocal are the ones from texas and Montana. The emails I have are from our law enforcement and they said they will not confisgate any weapons from law abiding citizens as they all believe in the 2nd amendment rights.

Your comment wasn’t only talking about confiscation. It said ” neither one of them will confiscate any weapons or follow any anti gun laws put out by the government”. The way you stated it, it would apply to any new gun legislation ie: background checks, limiting clip size, etc. I’m pretty sure that they would enforce those or face federal penalties.

I know we have discussed this before happy, according to the definition of the well regulated militia, that means able bodied civillians from the age of 16 to 60, and they were specific when they said it was not the national guard, to train so to be able to fight next to and with the guard and the army. maybe I read your article and then researched it. What I found was that this EO is nothing more than restating what has been the law since Harry Truman was president. It reaffirmed the powers of the president and his secretaries in times of national emergencies. These are the same powers both Pres. Bush’s and Pres. Reagan had. Food rationing, converting auto plants to making military vehicles, etc. Are you afraid of the Government or Pres. Obama? Or both? I know there is nothing I can say to ease your paranoia but rest assured there is no giant conspiracy going on. In 4 years Pres. Clinton will have the same powers as Pres. Obama had and 8 years after that Pres. Warren will have the same powers etc.. etc..

The ones I have read and are backed by SCOUS says that Congress does have the right to limit what type of weapons a person can own and who can own them. Ok happy this is what I believe. The 2nd amendment says that we have the right to own a weapon or number of weapons, according to the explination of the 2nd amendment it said that we should have the same weapons as the military so in case of invasion we can fight along side the military. If you have the money to buy a tank and the ammo for it then you have that right, or even a fighter jet. Most people don’t have that kind of money so whatever hand weapons the military is using we have the right to own that too.

Yes, in the last 3 months, Obama has changed the nation by polarizing it more than ever when it comes to gun control. As many gun stores say, he was the gun salesman of the year. Gun and ammo sales are through the roof. It’s hard to find some types of guns and ammo because they fly off the shelf as soon as they come in. Manufacturers can’t keep up with demand. Gun permit applications and approvals have skyrocketed. On Facebook, a lot of people, mostly women in my case, are posting about Second Amendment rights and are talking about taking shooting lessons, about getting permits, and about arming themselves. Either the opponents are keeping silent or I don’t see their posts. I have 900 friends from all over whom I really don’t know, but we have the same interest, and it isn’t guns! I’m very surprised at how many women are vocally pro-gun rights. I really expected there would be a huge anti-gun backlash on Facebook after Newtown, but there wasn’t. It was just the opposite. Obama’s stance on gun control has had the exact opposite effect he was looking for.

In 1919 the gun regulation was passed in response to the Treaty of Versailles. Hitler loosened the gun laws when he came into power. His laws were in many ways comparable to ours today. Most urban people want some form of gun control but the country people all want less so you do the math on how the numbers are adding up. Those polls are all riged, even gallup. I choose those 2 pages because they backed what I believe yet there are others that say just the opposite. Besides the ones I picked were fairly recent, one as recent as the end of December.
