Iowa AFL-CIO says Republicans take economy hostage to protect tax loopholes for corporations and wealthy –
Des Moines Iowa, February 28, 2013 A report from the Senate Appropriations Committee shows that Congressional Republicans’ ‘threats to harm the economy by letting automatic across-the-board budget cuts – called “sequestration” – go forward on March 1, 2013 would cause Iowa to lose enormous funding for education, public safety, healthcare and job training.
The report further proves that Republicans’ insistence on cutting Social Security, Medicaid, and Medicare benefits to pay for tax loopholes for corporations and the wealthiest 2 percent would directly harm working families.
These drastic cuts would slash Title I funds from more than 2,700 schools cutting support for nearly 1.2 million disadvantaged students. Title I funds , the largest federal-funded education program in the United States, meaning schools would be left struggling to pay for teachers and tutors. Iowa will lose approximately $6.4 million in funding for primary and secondary education, putting around 90 teacher and aide jobs at risk.
Critical grants for public safety would be cut back by $6,428.300, leaving fire departments understaffed and working without necessary, critical equipment.
“Yet again, Republicans in Congress are threatening to throw the economy back into recession unless Democrats agree to benefit cuts to Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid,” said Ken Sagar, President of the Iowa Federation of Labor AFL-CIO. “They are willing to allow deep across the board cuts that hurt working families to go into effect rather than close wasteful tax loopholes and demand corporations and the richest 2% pay their fair share. We need to invest in our economy and our people by creating more jobs, not cutting them. Congress must stop protecting corporations and the richest 2% and cancel the sequester immediately.”

@taxpayer-I heard on CNN that this is the worse administration ever on trying to intimidate people into doing what they want. They went after Standard and Poors just because they dared to lower the rating and have done the same thing to others. Other banks were just as guilty as Standard and Poors and go nothing.
If they would just take the illegals off medicare and social security that they did not pay into the funds would be just fine.

@anonymous-they get ahold of numbers on the black market and there are lots of them available. I know back in the day they used to just copy someones number and there would be 10 or 15 people all with the same number. It was on CNN that there were around 10 million illegals drawing some type of social security. They didn’t say how they were doing it.

A just released report showed that if you added up all the claims from the non stop list of complainers it would be ten times the sequester amount or 850 billion in cuts. It’ like trying to take the drugs away from the addicts. It hurts at first but is the start of the healing process.
And not one mention of our supreme ruler Osama Obama leader of the hands out, spend-o-crap nation who signed this into law and had the sole power to veto. I had a 2% cut in my take home pay at the first of the year plus price increases in gas, groceries, utilities and property taxes. Suck it up bloated government and live within your means like the taxpayers have to. O course that does not include the Obama cult believers whose only ambition is to walk to the mail box to take your blood sucker checks from the working middle class.
