MONTREAL, Feb. 9 (UPI) — A Montreal man accused of firebombing a reputed mafia kingpin’s funeral business is in a coma after a fire, his lawyer said.
Alexandre Toualy, 29, is accused of throwing an incendiary device into a funeral home complex owned by Vito Rizzuto two months after Rizzuto’s father was killed during a sustained attack on the crime family, police said.
Toualy was rescued by firefighters and later hospitalized after a kitchen fire in a Montreal apartment Jan. 27, his lawyer said. Investigators have ruled out foul play, The (Montreal) Gazette said Saturday.
Toualy’s lawyer said he was unsure when — or whether — his client would be able to return to court to face the arson charge.
Two others have been charged in the firebombing, police said.
