MASON CITY – The Cerro Gordo County Board of Supervisors heard a budget presentation from Administrative Officer Tom Drzycimski Tuesday at a 10 AM hearing.

Drzycimski spoke on courthouse maintenance projects and courthouse security projects for the upcoming budget.

One major project Drzycimski proposed is tuck pointing the courthouse at a projected cost of $45,000.

“It’s been 20 years,” he said, since the building was last tuck pointed.

The courthouse basement needs painting, at a projected cost of $17,500.

Counter tops in the office of the Board of Supervisors, last installed in the 1960’s, Drzycimski said, should be replaced at cost of $2,700.

Security projects include access control using card swipes in additional areas of the building at a cost of $12,500. An alarm study costing $10,000 is also proposed as well as a central screening point study costing $10,000. This item could include a metal detector at the courthouse main entrance if the study recommends it.

  1. Tuck pointing needs to be done or you get water leaks at the window sills and even through the walls if you get wind and rain at the same time. The grout deteriorates and buildings settle even after many years. It should be preventive maintenance and not something done after the damage is done. Twenty years is quite a long time. We do our home every 10-15 years and still find areas that should have been done sooner.
