Border Patrol Agents Seize $2M Worth of Marijuana

Laredo, TX – On Oct. 26, Laredo West Station agents assigned to their daily operations seized a significant amount of marijuana and arrested one subject.

Laredo West Station agents discovered bundles of marijuana that were hidden on a trailer, inside six wooden crates that were covered by sacks of commercial lime.

Agents working roving patrol duties in the Mines Road area noticed a suspicious 1999 tractor pulling a flatbed trailer. As agents drove closer to the trailer, the driver became noticeably nervous. Border Patrol agents conducted a routine stop on the tractor in order to conduct an immigration inspection. A service canine was also dispatched to perform a cursory inspection of the vehicle which resulted in an alert. The driver, identified as a 51-year old male U.S. citizen from New Caney, and the vehicle, were transported to the Laredo West Station for further questioning and an intensive inspection of the tractor-trailer. While at the station, the agents discovered bundles that were hidden on the trailer, inside six wooden crates that were covered by sacks of commercial lime. The substance inside the bundles tested positive for marijuana.

A total of 116 bundles of marijuana were extracted, with a total weight of 2,601.5 pounds, with an estimated value of $2,081,200.

The Drug Enforcement Administration took custody of the subject, tractor-trailer and the marijuana.
