A man who conspired to distribute crack cocaine from 2010 through 2012 was sentenced today to more than five years in federal prison.
Rico Dixon, 29, from Waterloo, Iowa, and previously from Chicago, Illinois, received the prison term after a July 12, 2012, guilty plea to one count of conspiracy to distribute crack cocaine.
At his guilty plea hearing, Dixon admitted he agreed with others to distribute crack cocaine from 2010 through 2012 in and around Waterloo, Iowa. At his sentencing hearing, Dixon also agreed he possessed a gun in connection with his drug trafficking.
Dixon was sentenced in Cedar Rapids by United States District Court Chief Judge Linda R. Reade. Dixon was sentenced to 70 months’ imprisonment. A special assessment of $100 was imposed. He must also serve a 4-year term of supervised release after the prison term. There is no parole in the federal system.
Dixon is being held in the United States Marshal’s custody until he can be transported to a federal prison.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Tony Morfitt and investigated by the Iowa Division of Narcotics Enforcement and the Waterloo Police Department.
