SOCCER: Hahn’s Defensive Streak Makes Big 12 History

AMES, Iowa – Iowa State libero Kristen Hahn made Big 12 history on Monday, becoming the first league player to ever earn four-straight Big 12 weekly awards in any category with her fourth-consecutive Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week Award.

Last week at No. 14 Kansas State and Texas Tech, Hahn averaged 6.00 digs per set, picking up 24 digs against the Red Raiders on Saturday for her 25-straight double-digit dig performance and her eighth 20-plus dig match of the season. The Cedar Rapids, Iowa native served a career-high three aces in each of last week’s matches.

After five conference matches, Hahn remains atop the Big 12 dig standings with an average of 6.05 digs per set, more than 1.50 digs per set more than the second-place player. Hahn also is tied for fourth in aces per set in conference play with an average of 0.42. Overall this season, Hahn is one of two Big 12 players averaging better than 5.00 digs per set, at 5.08, and is the driving force behind Iowa State’s league-leading 17.42 digs per set in Big 12 play.

Since her 26 dig performance against No. 1 Nebraska on Sept. 15, the match that set off her four-week win streak, Hahn is averaging 6.13 digs per set with 14 assists and nine aces.  Over the six-match streak, Hahn has four matches of at least 20 digs, including a league-best 33 digs at Kansas and has been nails on service receptions with just one error in 120 reception attempts (.992).

Texas’ Haley Eckerman took top offensive honors for the second time this season and Oklahoma’s Julia Doyle was named the league’s top rookie. Eckerman has nine career honors, one ahead of Hahn’s eight.

On Wednesday, Iowa State (9-6, 3-2 Big 12) welcomes West Virginia (8-11, 0-5 Big 12) to Hilton for a 6:30 p.m. CDT first serve.
