MASON CITY – Blue Zones coordinator Angie Determan made a presentation to the Mason City School Board Monday night.
This “overview” of the Blue Zones initiative explains how the city can ultimately become “certified” as a Blue Zone community, naming six sectors of the community that first must become certified.
“It’s about options, not taking away,” Determan said, referring to food and other recommendations the program makes to citizens in order to enjoy a healthier lifestyle.
Determan asked the board to consider drafting a resolution that pledges cooperation by the school district in the Blue Zone initiative. The schools are one of the six sectors that must become certified in order for Mason City to become a full-fledged Blue Zone community. The board agreed to draft a resolution and vote on it at next month’s meeting.
