  1. I was at the Friday Night Live event==did not see anywho who I felt was intoxicated–just people having good clean fun. The kids who were there were also having fun and didn’t seem to even notice that some of the adults were drinking beer. If you don’t like kids around drinking–stay home!! You can’t raise your children in a bubble, protecting them from everything you feel is evil!!

  2. Official: ‘No magic bullet’ to curb underage drinking
    By PEGGY SENZARINO

MASON CITY — It’s going to take education, a change in community attitudes toward drinking and lots of hard work to turn around the statistics

Read the article in the other news source, GG, in the Sunday paper 6/17/12 page A4.

  3. What is all the talk about police brutility? I have never seen any,the ones that I have encountered have always been polite and courtisty, I know thjat i am not the best speller, but get the point….Jim

  4. This is nothing new they have been doing it for a few years now. I am happy that they do this it gives my family something to enjoy together.

  5. You that are worried about being pulled over by the MCPD should go to another town to party tonight then. With any luck a state trooper will bust you if you are driving under the influence then.

  6. Last Saturday’s even downtown that included the farmer’s market and bands afterwards was one of the best times I’ve had in MC for a long time. Such a great event with people hanging out and enjoying the new downtown and it’s businesses.

I drive by the Park Inn routinely and see car after car with license plates from all over the country coming here to see the Park Inn. There is always someone standing on State Street taking pictures of it.

It’s very exciting to see all of this and the naysayers can continue to do just that, while the rest of us enjoy the renaissance downtown.

  7. John, alcohol is not illeagal, it wont bite you, you cant catch it. Stay at home, locked in the closet if you are afraid of a adult having a beer.

    1. sad’ly, you just don’t get the point that I was trying to make. Let me see if I can make it simple for you. Alcohol and children don’t mix…

  8. Will there be beer and or alcohol at this, “family-friendly event” Now wait, I’m not against an occasional drink, but can’t we have something like this without it. Especially when there are going to be children around. Almost everyday in the paper you read about OWI or public intox arrests. I just wonder what kind of a message this sends our children. I’m sure that as responsible adults, we can go without drinking for an hour or two, I’d hope anyway. Just a thought…

    1. Here is a thought. You should go to Europe some time. THEY DRINK AT LUNCH! Having a beer or two around a child will not mentally scar them for life. Stop coddling children to the point where you think they should wear a helmet and safety goggles when brushing their teeth. If you don’t like the event or what occurs at the event, STAY HOME.

      1. FFF, I have never been to Europe, and I have no desire to go there. But you, on the other hand, talk as if you are aware of the customs in other countries. So could you elaborate on any alcohol problems that Europe has with it’s young generation. The alcohol problem we have in mason city, and probably the entire US, is serious. Maybe you don’t ever read the paper or watch the news, have you ever heard about MADD, or other organizations that battle this problem. Alot of money is spent trying to combat teenage alcoholism. Those that think that it is not a problem, are quite possibly, the problem. It doesn’t concern me, so I’ll look the other way. There is quite a bit of difference between, alcohol, and a families choice of helmets, goggles, and brushing your teeth, so try not to confuse the two. You learn what you live, then you live what you’ve learned.

    1. Although I am usually somewhat negative when things happen in our city I think this is absolutely GREAT. Glad to see something happening downtown to justify all the money spent down there. Everyone have a great time. To you people who are complaining about the police presence tonight-shut up-. You are probably the same ones who complain about the police when we have a shooting or other things that happen. Of course there will be a police presence. Stay within the law and you won’t have a problem.

  9. Go to the Charles City Party in the Park. Better selection of food and drink. Better music and people to party with. No Mason City out of control police brutality to put up with.

  10. Will the MCPD be running safety checks on the way home for anybody who may have had a beer? It really offends them to see anyone having a good time. Cant roust people in the OP anymore. Maybe work on those in the park.
