Trojans qualify for nationals in track and field

NORTHFIELD, Minn. – A pair of NIACC throwers had two top-10 finishes and qualified for the NJCAA Nationals next month in the weight throw at the Carleton Relays on Saturday.

Trey Taylor (Fr., Bloomfield, CT) won the men’s javelin with a 49.95 meter (163’10”) throw, which is his third win in that event this season.  He also qualified for nationals in the hammer throw with a 47.54 (156’) toss which put him in eighth place.  He nipped the qualifying standard by .11 meters (4”).

Emily Burchett (Fr., Mayview, MO) placed fourth and qualified for women’s hammer throw with a 43.55 meter (142’10”) throw.  The qualifying mark for that was 42.67 meters (140’).  She also added an eighth-place in the discus with at 32.64 meters (107’1”).

In other notable finishes, Samoane Waddy (So., Boone, IA) placed eighth in the 100-meters in 14.26, Heidi Hain (So., Nora Springs, IA) was ninth in the javelin (20.42 m, 67’) and Nathan Mejia (Fr., Worthington, MN) was 10th in the triple jump (11.29 m, 37’0½”).

NIACC will be at the Region XI Championships in Council Bluffs next Friday and Saturday.
