MASON CITY – A false alarm at the Historic Park Inn Hotel in downtown Mason City brought out fire trucks, ambulance and Mason City Police over the noon hour.
“We are just fine here, it’s just a false alarm,” a woman working at the front desk said. Two fireman stood by, discussing the situation. Another brought a ladder inside.
Fire trucks, police and an ambulance were all parked outside on West State Street, well off of the curb, but cars continued to drive by slowly and gawk at the situation. It was only until the ambulance pulled out to block the road did people not attempt to drive down the street.

Our city fire chief was just on TV stumping for more dollars and people saying how busy they are!! I would bet, 95% of all departures from the fire station, are unnecessary. Everytime there is a 500 dollar fender bender, 2 ambulances and a fire truck go flying down the street. Looks good in a log book to justify your job.
‘what a Joke’: Do you know why they send out that many rigs?
What was reported to dispatch? Who reported it? What is the protocol in any given situation? Did a patient sign off once they arrived?
If only one rig was sent out, do you want to be the one laying on the pavement in a pool of your own blood waiting for the second rig to arrive? Who is going to lift the stretcher when one man is doing CPR? How about keeping an airway open? Applying compression to a wound? Hope you aint in critical!
I think perhaps you need to sit in dispatch for a few hours, and spend a shift with the FD and learn what really goes on out there.
… slow news day! Must have missed the jaywalker somewhere!
So a false alarm warrants all that response and blocking the street?
Why didn’t the ambulance just leave instead?
I’ll never understand stupidity.
Wow-If it had burned down we wouldn’t have to support it in the near future. It is just about time where they admit it can’t support itself and we need to kick in our taxes because of it’s historical value. Just watch. Why do you think Marino is on the city council??
Marino? Marino? Who the hell is Marino?
What Bookmeyer and Kuhn get into another fight with people? Or was it they were just wasted drunk and passed out?
Your comment really adds to the discussion…
