Harkin Announces Over $2.8 Million for Iowa Schools

WASHINGTON—Today, Senator Tom Harkin (D-IA), Chairman of the Appropriations Subcommittee that funds education and the Senate Education Committee, announced a $2,863,652 grant to the state of Iowa to help provide low-achieving schools with the resources they need to improve student success.

“As budgets at every level of government are stretched, we cannot neglect the most important investment we can make in our economic future: our children’s education. This funding will help to ensure that teachers have the resources they need to provide our kids with quality education that will prepare them for college and careers, and a lifetime of success,” Harkin said.

The funding was provided under the U.S. Department of Education’s School Improvement Grants program, to help turn around persistently low-achieving schools.
