WASHINGTON, D.C. – Senator Tom Harkin (D-IA) today announced that six programs aimed at reducing homelessness in Iowa have been awarded grants totaling $734,798 from the U.S. Department and Urban Development’s (HUD) Continuum of Care Homeless Assistance awards. The grant programs provide funding from a range of assistance to homeless persons, including transitional housing, permanent housing and a variety of supportive services. Harkin is a senior member of the Appropriations subcommittee, which funds housing initiatives.
“Supporting programs that help the homeless with services and to find shelter is important for everyone in our communities. It is also important to help those individuals transition to decent, affordable housing,” said Harkin. “These grants will go toward critical assistance for the most vulnerable. I congratulate all of these programs on this competitive assistance.”
