Just wondering….. I often hear people commenting about Gov. Bandstads health. At times he shakes, slurs some words, and walks with an awkward gait. Folks speculate that he has Parkinsons. He always has a driver and is never without Kim Reynolds at his side. So how is the Gov? Any definitive word on health issues?

I have only heard the rumor also. They say he does have Parkinson’s Disease. And, the intent is to be re-elected and then resign the next year and then Kim Reynolds, will automatically become Governor. That sounds like Branstad and his ilk!! As far as the driver. All Governor’s have drivers and politically he keeps the Lt.Gov close for the above reason– he wants people to become more familiar. I wish he would just be honest. But that trait is far from this guys vocabulary.

@MaryBeth-As you said it is just a rumor started by the Democrats to try and discredit Branstad. They know they are getting their butts whipped and will try anything. Even if it is true Kim Reynolds is ten times better than Hatch the crook will ever be.

@LVS…. Can you imagine the fallout over something like this if a republican were to say the very same thing about Sen. Hatch? I’m not a huge Branstad fan, but it sure seems like people are getting desperate with the way the rumors are flying around.

If Hatch had Parkinson’s I doubt he’d be running. Branstad should have stepped down and let Reynolds run in his place. It’s the honest thing to do. And that’s exactly why he didn’t do it.

Hillary Clinton is in excellent health, but she’s been attacked (and will continue to be) mercilessly by conservatives who say she’s not healthy enough to run for POTUS. It works both ways, Buzz.

@JMO-With Hillary it is a mental issue. She is a born again liar. probably caught it from her husband.

Waverly beat MC tonight 49-14. What is going on with MC football? 2A and 3A teams are using them for a punching bag?

Well sports fans, Micich’s Mohawks traveled east tonight to play the 3A Waverly Gohawks. The Mohawks came out on the short end of a 49-14 score. Was Anita Micich at the game?

I used to watch a TV show, “Where in the World is Carmen San Diego?”. Perhaps we should come up with a variation, i. e. “Where in the State is Anita Micich?”

Philosophus: I dont need a job packing tires but I do have some tires to donate at no charge delivered. what size you need. I have 15″ and 16″

Thanks for the offer, but I’m all tired up for now. I primarily use 18’s,17’s, 16’s. I’m leaning towards bigger tires now, because they cover more area and feel tougher. In the future, I’ll probably go no less than 18’s. I still need greenhouse glass though, double walled patio door is best. I stepped on a damn nail recently, and had a T-Dap shot, plus it’s been cold, wet and miserable. Hoping for a long hot “Indian Summer”.

FYI Kaplan U. is controlled by the Graham family, until recently the owners of the Washington Post. Their political leanings are definitly not Republican. But you could call them hypocrites. I say Kaplan has never done anything positive for the community, they have always sucked money out, really didn’t matter who the director was. Aunt Bea summed it up well.

I heard a rumor that Kaplan has terminated all residential faculty and now only offer programs online…..great for the local economy, not. Their new director is one with robin Anderson and the Chamber, so I guess it isn’t a surprise. One more Republican sucking money out of the government and our local economy.

A friend of mine was terminated from Kaplan last year around this time. She was an “admissions counselor” who could not meet her quota selling snake oil to marginal students who had no business taking college level courses. Its the Kaplan way, selling the promise of a good job to the masses with a dismal placement record.

@Live-My, my, the Graham family are left wing Democrats. Just goes to show you don’t have a clue. However, you are correct that Kaplan sucks.

Funny how most people want to jump on the “lets slam the republicans” bandwagon, what they need to do is some research first so they don’t sound ignorant.

@maybe-stupid is as stupid does. You know what I mean?

You two might want to do a little more research yourselves before making uninformed comments.

“Tom Leppert is the current Chief Executive Officer of Kaplan, Inc.
The former Mayor of Dallas TX, Leppert is a life long Republican.”

During candidate Leppert’s 2007 mayoral campaign, he ran television commercials telling Dallas, “I hope you’ll say ‘no’ to new taxes by saying ‘yes’ to Tom Leppert.”
However, in September he voted with the City Council in a successful push to raise…

Funny, keep them coming…

HA I laughed so hard I puked a little! HA
I want more!

I want to make a citizens arrest on the Sheriff’s Deputy who ran a red light this morning. If that were me I would of gotten stopped/ a ticket!
And NO they were NOT going to a call.

CNN ‘New Day’ host Chris Cuomo is speaking intelligently with a no-bullshit, “Americans are fed up with it all” approach. He has echoed the exact sentiments I’ve stated here on NIT concerning the absence of surrounding Arab States to manage their own crisis, and calling Putin out on his thuggish bullshit. He’s the anchor to watch these days. Good job Chris. Keep it coming.

I just watched some video of the latest slaughter of 250 Syrian soldiers by ISIS. I’m convinced the entire region needs to be Neutron Bombed. It doesn’t matter if it’s the Syrian side, the Iraqi side, the rebels, the government…none of it matters. They are all barbaric, subhuman pigs. The best we can hope for is the women and children get out of the region before the Neutron Bombing Begins. Yes, it will seem shocking, but in 20 years, we can repopulate the area with decency.

The second point that needs to be made…a question is: Why is anyone surrendering? It’s clear once they surrender, they are rounded up and slaughtered…obviously with great bravado and propaganda. Both sides obviously need to be fighting to the death, because they will be shown no mercy. It’s all so disgusting, and humanity in that region of the world is non existent. War to them is like soccer or football to the rest of the world. Wipe them all out…start over.

One name comes to mind, Enola Gay…

I do agree with you about bombing the whole area but the radiation will last more than a lifetime. I read an article that stated that Christian kurds are taking up arms to fight ISIS, it’s about time.

Yes gentleman, this is very serious indeed. ISIS and radical Islam are a threat to the entire free world. FOOLISH Christian bleeding heart groups have imported hundreds of thousands of Muslims into the Minneapolis region (and spreading). These Muslims congregate and some of them radicalize. One day they will rise up and Jihad in our backyards. These Christian groups must be STOPPED. There’s a good reason ‘brutal’ dictators ruled the Middle East: JIHADIS ARE WORSE.

Jihadis are thugs and street criminals who have found an outlet to express their violent tendencies thru a quasi mystique of a vague, loosely organized “religion”. This allows half wits, wanderers, sub-intellectuals, and gang banger a chance to commit murder in a region of lawlessness. They should be treated as criminals and exterminated. It’s the perfect storm of wild west and Crusades fueled by the Arms Company who are out to sell weapons to either side.

And how will the good American tax paying citizens defend themselves from this Muslim plague after our government has taken our guns away. I refuse to be a subject, to anybody.

Don’t worry allen. No matter how hard they try they will not take our guns away.

@philly…..yes we should try to stop terrorism, but weve got terrorism right here in the usa with the big cia, the bloods and the crips, and the KKK. If you only have love for your own race then you leave room to discriminate, and to discriminate only generates hate, and when you hate that will make you irate. Madness is what you demonstrate and that’s exactly how anger works and operates.

Islam is a mindset…a cult of violent proportions. It’s not the skin color I find detestable, it’s their willingness to cut my head off for being a peaceful Buddhist, or free thinker. The entire lot of them should be dropped in a pit and burned with hot oil. No, that doesn’t make me like them…it makes me want to protect the world from them- big difference in protecting freedom versus inflicting religious zealotry.

My message to so-called “good Muslims” is simple: ABANDON YOUR RELIGION. If Buddhists formed brutal theocracies that cut people’s heads off and placed them on sticks, stoned people to death for superstitious reasons, and promoted the toppling of other religions via war against the world, I WOULD ABANDON AND RENOUNCE ALL ASSOCIATION with it. There’s simply no excuses you can give to justify your continued adherence to Islam when so many of your own are committing such acts.

So much for the 2nd amendment

I heard today that the State of Iowa does not have money to pay it’s National Guard soldiers for the weekend drill training this month. No money to pay soldiers but we can give BILLIONS to countries that hate us and want to destroy us. Radical Muslims have said that they will destroy this country economically, and it seems to be working.

The Departments of Defense, Homeland Security and the Pentagon jointly recommended a downsizing of National Guard units in all 50 states in order to maintain spending levels for the regular Army and all other Branches of Military Service.

Right, I’m sure that’s what they had in mind.

I hope your wrong. Downsizing any of our military at this time is not going to help this country one bit. Fifty percent of the deployed units in Iraq were Guard and Reserve units augmenting and supporting the active military. The active military don’t have enough soldiers to sustain a long term conflict as seen in Iraq, because our government had already cut the active military. This country is going to be in a world of shit when Russia and the Muslim radicals attack. It’s just a matter of…

Congress approved cuts in the military budget, they will be the ones who are either right or wrong, not I. Ask them to account for the decision to downsize, the answer is way above my rank.

@Allen-They are getting a lot of help from the White House.

The Mason City football fans were treated to a soggy football game tonight. Micich’s Mohawks went down to defeat, 44-7, to the 2A Clear Lake Lions. Was Anita at the game?

It’s a game.

I heard spreading rumors turns you into a moron.

Maybe it should be free to everyone or at least the students.I’m not cheap but $5.00 a person? Newman doesn’t charge why should the high school.

SORRY MEANT TO SAY NIACC!

@Matt-she has almost destroyed Mason City sports with a little help from parents.

It’s hard to support a program that is not supported by the school board or the administration. The school board does everything that Anita wants, regardless of the outcome. Anita needs to go, she has not been good for Mason City schools.

She has done a good job of tearing up the athletic department in Mason City, but don’t forget that she is also in charge of Clear Lake.

Clear Lake will not let her get away with that crap there and she knows it. Thus the score of a 2A football team winning over a 4A team for several years now. It is a shame what Mason City has allowed to happen to their school. The students must feel helpless, they have nothing to work with.

@Bradley-the only one who brought up the kids was you.

There is a house on 11th street, the back yard faces 12th. It is a huge mess and has been for a very long time. A couple summers ago, the attic had a fire and the house was deemed unlivable at that time because of filth and dog feces. Now the same family still lives there, junk all over the front and back yard, the horrible smell of animal droppings, etc. The city needs to something about this house!!!

The family that lives in the house have made no effort what so ever to clean it up. They don’t care how their filthy yard and home effect the neighbors. The elder man who is trying to clean up should be given enough time. At least he is working on it and has a group of volunteers to help.

Which 11th street? NE, NW, SE or SW?

At the NW you have 12th st and 1 block south is 10th st.

I just want to say how proud I am of Max Weaver and the Church Volunteers who are making the effort helping City Hall victim Phillip Flinchum on cleaning up his house!
Great Job Guys!

@Anonymous-Weaver probably wants the junk for his yard.

Don’t forget, one mans junk is another mans treasure. Personally I hate to see good stuff thrown away. You have to agree, we are a throw away society, and that’s a shame.

Has anyone noticed those fancy powder coated railings that the city put along the sidewalks under the over passes. Well they are rusty again and really look terrible. Instead of putting in galvanized railings, that are 99% maintenance free, the city chose powder coated steel that is prone to rust, and rust they are. They were repainted the second year they were up, and now need it again. It seems that the railings are going to need to be painted yearly. Good investment with tax payer money…

@Allen-The city leaders (if you can call them that) seem to have a real problem with paint. Look at the stupid bike signs painted on the road that are all fading away and then look at the street lights downtown with the bases rusting. Now they want to replace them when all they need to do is sand blast them and repaint. Of course that is the commonsense thing to do is it will not happen.

I concur. Those painted bike signs are beyond just idiotic, they are confusing, misleading and possibly dangerous. They have no useful purpose and don’t point to anywhere. They could confuse bicyclists into believing they have full access to the road. Eliminate them ASAP. I’d like to know who was behind putting these things up?

@Philly-It was our mayor. He was probably drunk again.

“confusing, misleading and possibly dangerous.”
Wow….these are some of the very same words I’ve used to describe you!!

Is there any truth the rumor, you plan on changing the town name(former)of Burdette to Phillyville???
Also…just so you know, some cities are able to get a police patrol motorcycle through Harley Davidson at a very reasonable cost. Its something you might consider. Just trying to help you out, no need to thank me.

No, the town will stay French…for now anyway. Nothing wrong with Harley’s that come off the assembly line. They have proper mufflers. We’ll probably want a Prius for our Patrol Car…but that will all be decided at Council meetings. It’ll be friendly like Mayberry, but intelligent like Palo Alto.

Philo: it sounds like you own property in Burdette. Did you buy the house in the triangle with an old footing on the east side of the house?

Who is this and why do you want to know? For what reason are you asking me?

Mayberry huh, are you going to be Barney Fife?

“No, the town will stay French…for now anyway.” Yeah, you’re probably right. Keep things simple so you can understand them. Besides, you have enough on your plate the way it is. I think I’ve heard people are already starting to wonder when you are going to clean up that major eye-sore you’ve created. To you its another cutting edge project that you envision will help to leave your mark on the world. To others, its just another one of your messes that someone else will have to clean up.

The revolution will happen on his schedule. He doesn’t have time to build AND bitchin on here. All I know is there will be one hell of a mud hole come next spring. When he is forced to rezone to be a dump or clean it up, we shall see how unfair life is once again.

Me again Philo. If you know the house I am talking about, I almost bought it a few years ago for a thousand dollars. If it were closer to my home I would have. maybe I still should have.

$1000? Still not sure what you’re talking about. No property would sell for $1000 where I’m at. It was a rough year due to some healthy moisture levels. Good for growing, not so good for building. Mosquitoes ruled for a good month or longer. Burgess was OUT! Finally got one in a tad late. Some neighbor troubles got a bit heated also: gunfire-barking dogs. I’m hoping for an extended DRY fall. I have a place waiting for me in Vegas, but I was hoping to winter here. Next spring…game on

Phil, did you lose a yellow lab names Boris?

I signed up for AARP and I have something called rewards for good points. Has anyone here used these? I see I can cash them in on coupons but the deals don’t look all that different than watching the paper for coupons.

Anyone else have experience with these?

@Mediator-You can get the same discounts through AAA or you car insurance company. Most credit cards have them too and you don’t have to deal with the socialist at AARP. I cancelled my membership with them years ago. You will probably like them.

I purposely allowed my membership to expire some time ago. They bombarded me with 2 or 3 pieces of junk mail a week and their coupons were no better than any other discounts that are readily available and often free.

Y’all heard about the UZI accident in Mohave County on the news? A young girl accidentally shoots and kills the firearms instructor at the gun range?

People…People…People…

UZI’s are NOT for children. These sicko firearms nuts who let children shoot guns ought to be put in prison. Many times the child themselves end up dead.

Guns are for the initiated and for the trained. I would treat GUN NUTS who harm children in this way like PEDOPHILES…and punish them SEVERELY.

I do agree with you, an automatic weapon does not belong in the hands of a child BUT I take offense to the term GUN NUT.

Gun Nut=Someone who is so overly exuberant about firearms that they place children and other people in danger by their reckless storage, use, and acquisition of fire arms.

Say it #maybe: I want to read you state that encouraging children to shoot guns-ESPECIALLY MACHINE GUNS, is a form of CHILD ABUSE. Print it here. Sign the Petition.

Let me restate what I said. Teaching a child to shoot is a good thing in my book. Teach them the safety and what to do and not to do if they found a gun BUT having a child that has never shot a gun before shoot an automatic weapon isn’t good. You have fallen into the PC trap peter, anything you don’t like is abuse. Striking a child with a closed fist is abuse, tying them up and locking them in a room is abuse, shooting a gun is not.

Letting a child shoot a fully automatic UZI machine gun IS ABUSE. I’d say children-at best, should only be allowed to shoot single shot .22 caliber guns, that cannot be quickly re-shot. The point is that when the child lost control of the UZI, she started spraying bullets everywhere. Recoil and the loud bang are very startling, and if the gun allows for a subsequent shot (as is the case with semi autos and full autos) disaster can ensue. That firearms instructor deserved what he got

Shooting a gun is NOT abuse, shooting an automatic weapon is a lapse of judgment. People throw around that word abuse like it is the second coming, because it is easy to call something you disagree with abuse.

Wait one cotton picking moment here, let me get this straight. ” Recoil and the loud bang are very startling, and if the gun allows for a subsequent shot (as is the case with semi autos and full autos) disaster can ensue”. Do you understand the difference between semi auto and an automatic? From what you just said you are lumping them both in the same category when they are totally difference, sounds like something a liberal would do.

I’m not CNN’s Don Lemon. Yes I understand the difference between semi and full auto. And there’s no reason to reminisce back to your cotton plantation worker days. Though you were guard with the gun, others were the slaves working…insensitive to say the least.

I remember age 16 sneaking my dad’s 20 gauge shotgun after school-driving out in the country on gravel roads-placing bottles and jugs in the ditch and shooting several times. It was thrilling, but I had no formal training; I just winged it and luckily nothing went wrong. I also remembering after having been treated unfairly, going to the gun case a few times…but always came to my senses. I’m just being honest.

Youth do not need to be around guns. PERIOD.

Now that was way too much information, knowing that you could be a mass murderer is more than I can take right now.

Screw U. I figured you’d try and twist it back on me. My point is that teenagers go thru a mix of ups and downs, especially if they perceive themselves to be punished unfairly. Some kids deserved their punishments, but I often faced irrational behaviors and decrees…partly why I’m so hyper-vigilant against injustice today. Every human being stands at the edge at times, and makes decisions. I made mine, and I chose restraint, and peace. I have passed my STRESS TEST…have you?

You have no idea and wouldn’t ever be able to handle the stress that I have endured.

It can’t be worse than philo’s. How could it be? He has suffered the most. He has learned the most. He is the smartest. Just read what he posts. It’s all there.

You must be new to phili’s “they will all pay one way or another policy”.

Just because YOU DID NOT need to be around guns doesn’t mean that all kids are the same. I have been around guns all my life and I have been treated unfairly but I NEVER EVER thought about using a gun on anybody.

So now you’re going to spend the rest of this essay trying to frame me as an irrational person who shouldn’t be around guns because I was honest in telling you that when I was a teenager, I contemplated using a shotgun after having been abused and mistreated many times. That’s awesome you never had any problems in your life Gomer, but that doesn’t mean others haven’t. Again, the main issue is that children shouldn’t be around guns. They aren’t fully developed and are prone to mistakes

You have no idea what I have been through as a kid. My life wasn’t easy but then there are many more out there that had it worse than me. What I am saying is that you teach a kid safety and you will never have to worry about them with firearms. accidents happen out of ignorance, if a child treats the weapon as a dangerous tool and never forgets that then there wouldn’t be any problems.

#maybe the video is very clear. She’s at an approved machine gun range, and the instructor is standing next to her fully instructing her, guiding her, and he still ended up dead, because when the shooting started, DUH, the loud bangs and recoil brought her hands up, out of control, and a bullet killed him. That poor girl will now suffer trauma for the rest of her life because of the idiot GUN NUTS who encouraged her to shoot. WAKE UP DUDE. UZI’S are not toys.

Like I said, a lapse of judgment that he will never do again, yes children do not need to fire automatics until they can handle it but it is not abuse and they are not gun nuts.

Matt-Question here. What ever happened to the new hotel complex that was to replace the Clarion? Is this another B.S. deal by the city’s so called leader’s??? I thought it was supposed to open next month.

I have a ? about the new CL building. Will new turning lanes, wider roads, AND stop lights be put in to better serve the increased traffic and truck load?

Why can’t Kimt tv give us Iowa news? All we get are stories about Minnesota and crap about the staff’s kids, like we care. Anything to keep from doing any actual work.

I haven’t watched KIMT for that same reason for almost 5 years.

@maybe-I agree. I have almost quit watching KIMT news too. I get much more news about Mason City from the Minnesota stations. Also, KIMT thinks the whole world stops on the weekends so we don’t need news or weather on Sunday evening. Probably so they can have every weekend off.

Fisher???? Journalist??? Not.

Read the article below on the Urdahl/Blodgett/Callanan– Supervisor political BS.
Looks like a story that only this site will share.
Heaven knows, the Glob won’t expose the truth!

Re: The news brief on the Mohawk scrimmage Friday night. How did the “Saltine Crackers” do? I haven’t seen or heard anything on Micich’s Mohawks all weekend.

Well it looks like a Mason City Field Representative of the Iowa DNR came calling on my land sometime in the past 7 days. He left his calling card. Someone must have attempted to report me. I have no problem telephoning him Monday to discuss my project. You see, he may be surprised to learn that Amy in Des Moines, the head of the entire state’s tire disposal unit, has already approved my submitted plans. Nice try though whomever the concerned citizen was! 🙂

So the county zoning commision can be overturned by some lady in charge of used tires?

#maybe, you remind me of Bobby Brady: Saying kinda goofy things that makes Mike Brady smile. 🙂 But on a more serious note…was it the County Zoning Commission that you called on me? Ha ha. No, no my dear boy…The person who left his business card was a MC district DNR official…however the person I acquired permission from is the STATE DNR OFFICIAL in charge of Tire disposal and Permits. So who do you think trumps whom? Like I said, though, I have no problem calling him monday

I could care less if you are building your house out of tires or grass, that’s all up to you so it wasn’t me that called them. What I meant was a county or state office can be overturned by some lady selling used tires?

Now you’re going to get punished like Marcia climbing out of her window to go mail that Father of the Year letter. SHE’S THE HEAD OF THE TIRE WASTE DISPOSAL UNIT AT THE IOWA DEPARTMENT OF NATURAL RESOURCES. She has the authority to grant permits to businesses who handle tires, as well as proper disposal of them. SHE’S NOT SELLING TIRES. She works for the IOWA DNR. BTW Marcia…all of us Brady’s are gong skiing and you’re going to be staying home with your grandparents. PUNISHMENT

I think you watch too much tv.

Mike doesn’t like to raise his voice, but will if you aren’t listening or following his instructions. He’ll still kiss you on the forehead goodnight though, and the next morning while talking with Carol, he may even wonder if he’s being too hard on you. Mike’s a good father, and expects better from you, while loving you the way you are. Here’s to you Mike…

Philosophus: I think I can put this in terms you can understand. When you look in the mirror and watch yourself talk, you see Will Hunting. When we read your posts, we see the musings of Arnie Grape.

If I’m Arnie Grape, then who would #maybe be?

The voice of reason, that’s who peter.

He is probably more similar to the guy who pulled you over for your 2nd DUI.

DUI’s are about as severe and common as parking tickets anymore. Everyone seems to get them. That’s because this culture inundates and saturates the population with glamorous alcohol advertising, and an abundance of beer and liquor trucks shipping in booze at many locations. Because PBT devices haven’t been offered to the public at an affordable and prevalent rate, many people aren’t sure how much over the limit they are, until the cops bust them. CORRUPTION at its finest.

Keep telling yourself it’s no big deal. I have never had one. Most people I know haven’t actually. But go ahead and rationalize your behavior when it suits you.

If the State weren’t ignorant and corrupt, they would require Preliminary Breath Testers (PBT’s) to be sold or offered wherever liquor is sold. That should have been done LONG AGO.

Oh yeah, and don’t forget, many in law enforcement drink over the legal limit, and when one of their own is caught or suspected (including family and friends of law enforcement) they are let off with a warning, or ignored entirely. This has already been proven on many occasions. I suspect this recently occurred when Jim Boehnke was involved in a traffic accident one Saturday night because he ran through the stop light or stop sign. I’m still wanting to acquire the location of accident.

Better come up with some proof or you are no better than the busy bodies that sit in the shops and drink $1.50 worth of coffee over 4 hours.

I just read on the site here that Casey Callahan has never attended a County meeting as is THINKING he’s qualified to serve the people of Cerro Gordo County??????????????
So is it true that Blodgett’s and Urdahl are trying to place “one of their own” in to control things?
And we sit back and take it?
Better yet, we sit and watch nothing happening in our County–with the exception of the new building going up in Clear Lake??
What has happened to grow our County and population?

I’ve heard about this so called political move also. If I were one of Blodgett’s supporter’s–I think I’d distance myself NOW!!!!!!!
This isn’t right at all.
All I’ve noticed with the three stooges that call themselves our Supervisor’s–are higher tax bills and property assesments

@Funny-Two of the three current supervisors are Democrats. What does that tell you?

Absolutely nothing other than one of them must be a Republican. What does it tell you? You have said before that urdahl might have democrat after his name but he does the republican Blodgett’s bidding

@bodacious-he runs as a democrat because he knows some of you dummy’s will vote straight ticket and he will get re-elected just because he a democrat. You vote him in and then want to bitch. Typical democrat.

Technically this is not true. Urdahl is a stronger republican than the Blodgett’s his best buddies…
It’s just sick…

@heatwave-then why is Urdahl a democrat and always has been. You post makes no sense at all. He stays a democrat because you people continue to vote him in.

So phili. I hope you do apply for the job. You probably wont get the position. But at least you making the attempt to join the real world. You need to be careful about what you say online. Remember the internet is your digital footprint and employers take everything that you have said online into account.

Phil Osophus. DOB: 02-02-68. SS#212-A0-1984. I mean do you really think the sheriff would inquire about NIT blogging in a deputy position interview? I’d decline to discuss the moniker were it ever posited to me. Similarly, i would decline to discuss my eating or fluid intake history with anyone other than my nutritionist / dietician. In short: it’s none of their damn business!

“What happens in NIT, stays in NIT”

They would ask if you’ve taken any illegal drugs lately and not the drugs that you consider illegal but what the law says.

@Philly-Of course they will look at it. They will also look at your old web site (the one that failed miserably) and your facebook page and your credit rating. It is all information they use. If you ever got out of your basement and out into the real world you would know this.

Phil’ I believe (around here) it will be asked. Around here it is a NO NO for their employees to associate or even talk to NIT. Fact!

On a lighter note. I grew up in the area south of here. I remember a cop named Andy he was the BEST cop EVER. People respected him, hoodlums, gangs they all loved him. We could go to him for ANYTHING.
Where have those type of officers gone?

Whether I follow thru with my attempt to become a law enforcement officer or not, will be my decision based on what my personal needs and goals are. Suffice it to say, the broader message I’m sending law enforcement and the community is that if the current law enforcement schematic isn’t capable of protecting the peace and doing their jobs adequately, then perhaps people such as myself and others should take over to become the new security apparatus for the region.

“Whether I follow thru with my attempt to become a law enforcement officer or not, will be my decision based on what my personal needs and goals are.”

Please don’t tell me…You surely aren’t thinking of giving up on saving us while serving us as the new Northern Iowa Exalted, Supreme Being, Buddhist, Prophet, Butcher, Baker, Candle Stick Maker, Deputy Sheriff are you?

@Buzz-Scary thought isn’t it???

To make a political point, I may follow through with the application. However, I’m smart enough to realize joining as a rank and file member of an establishment probably wouldn’t lend me to be their overseer or reformer. It takes decades to actually form policy, and all that can be immediately changed in an election. I do want to take a stab at going through the law enforcement academy though. I’d like to learn how things run. Ultimately though Policy making is my true calling.

@Philly-Good luck with that.

every so often they have a citizens police academy, I went through it back in 2012.

It makes more sense for you to join the Clear Lake Police Dept. You should put yourself in charge of patrolling for loud motorcycles and barking dogs. You should operate independently of any Police Chief and or City Council though since you are sooooo much smarter than everyone here on Earth. In a way, you would be the CL version of James Bond. By staying at the Lake, you could still have your mommy cut the crust of your PB&J sammies as well as still live in her basement.

Buzz, I rather like the crust on bread, and especially the “heels” which I try to preserve until the end of the loaf. However, lately, my medical condition has absolutely leveled me to the floor, and I had no choice but to revert back to my raw foods low sodium no meat-cheese-egg or dairy Vegan diet. I LOVE TO EAT SO MANY delicious foods, but the inflammation is too much. However, I am a professional sufferer-I’ve suffered so much that it’s virtually impossible to detect when I am.

When you are dealing with a smaller town I think the mayor and city hall tells the police what to do and enforce. can The mayor over ride an officers ticket.

I work in a small town pd. the mayor cannot override a ticket or tell us what to enforce.

chief of police Monte ??? and the mayor of hazelton Iowa took this to court many years ago. Mayor can over ride tickets.

PS you are either naive, lying, or dont know shit.

If the law enforcement officer who is licensed with the State of Iowa is writing a ticket that qualifies as a criminal complaint found in the Iowa Code, NO, the Mayor cannot override the ticket. However, if he is writing one for a city code, then yes, the Mayor can override the ticket. I actually just had a very good conversation with someone from the Iowa League of Cities this morning. I’m learning how to file articles of Incorporation to become a recognized town. 🙂

I am learning what it takes to become an astronaut. Lets see who gets there first.

You want to be a recognized town? First you would need your own zip code.

Maybe, you endlessly amuse me. No, first you file articles of incorporation with the Secretary of State, alongside notify the City Development Board under the Iowa Economic Development Board of proposed boundaries. You declare the type of government you will be…Mayor/Council type in this case. Luckily the area in question already was formerly a town, so I have a head start on the process. Much of the zoning and properties have already been sectioned off with the County Plat Map.

I went through the incorporation when I was living in Laughlin Nevada so I know what you are talking about. My question is you want to be a town of 1???

There are a potential of 7-9 distinct homesteads which could elect to become part of the municipality, and roughly 30-40 residents. There are benefits to incorporating that outweigh the drawbacks in my opinion, including the ability to hire our own peace officer and send him/her to the Iowa Law Enforcement Academy. At present it takes deputies approximately 30-60 minutes to arrive on a call.

self protection

“There are benefits to incorporating that outweigh the drawbacks in my opinion…” And just what are the benefits of living in Burdette, IA other than the fact your property taxes are very minimal? Did it ever occur to you that if you incorporate and hire a police officer (you want to be the one) that you will have to raise taxes to pay for wages, insurance, benefits and a pair of patrol tennis shoes? Not to mention your “property” will qualify as the fist nuisance problem in your new town!

Actually Buzz, I want to be the Mayor. The guy across the street is going to be our first police officer.

This article reads” The St. Louis County police declined to give details about what evidence investigators had been gathering while Mr. Brown’s body was in the street.

They were trying to save their own asses that’s what evidence they were gathering! When are officers going to realize that us citizens are getting REAL tired of this garbage. Cover ups, murders, beatings, is that in your job description?

I found this web-site on the Detroit Free Press, however, it includes Iowa counties in it’s searchable database. The information shows how much military equipment is bought by counties. Most Iowa counties have a handful of 5.56mm rifles; but check out Buena Vista county! A zombie attack must be around the corner!!! Run, Storm Lake!! RUN!

AND SOME PEOPLE ARE SO STUPID AND CANT UNDERSTAND WHY TAX PAYING CITIZENS DONT TRUST COPS. Please read this. http://www.theroot.com/articles/culture/2014/08/calif_highway_patrol_officer_who_beat_homeless_woman_suspended.html

Here is some advise if you actually have video of wrong doing. DO NOT release the footage for a few days. Let the lying bastards stick their foot in their mouth first. Hard to trust someone in court if they are caught in a lie.

It seems we have some Police officers on here. Let me ask you this.
Do you think that the officer in St Louis will be justified in the shooting death of a unarmed young man?

they dont have the balls to answer you. ever talk to them officially. they want you to do all the talking and they never answer any of your questions.

First of all as of right now nobody can answer that because we don’t have al the facts, all we have is hearsay.

What facts? There were many witnesses who saw it happen and some of them recorded it and its possible that there is more video out there but are too afraid to come forward out of fear of becoming a missing person in the future.
People need to surround themselves with cameras these days because if you don’t you’re screwed. Why hasn’t the police released the dash cam? Could it be because they need to edit it first? People are tired of this and it needs to stop!

Which one are you talking about, the one in Ferguson all the witnesses have changed their story in favor of the cop so they have to figure out who is telling the truth and who isn’t.

Yes the one in Ferguson. If witnesses indeed have changed their stories it’s possible because they were threatened or paid off. Unedited videos do not lie. See, we all know how that works. That’s why its important for citizens to arm themselves with cameras. I have cameras inside/out of my home, my car and on me. The best part about that is that it automatically uploads to a certain website. 🙂

First of all I didn’t know there was video of the shooting in Ferguson, secondly why does everybody always expect the law to be in the wrong? I hate the way some officers have been acting lately but not all of them are bad.

According to articles/comments there is video. (Not sure if its the actual shooting)
People should be able to trust the police. They shouldn’t have to feel scared. Police should be here to protect citizens. This is not war. If people were treated with a little more respect other than a piece of trash/or a suspect then I believe it would be different. People shouldn’t feel like they have to run the other way when approached by a cop.

I did see a video taken from a cell phone of brown laying in the street but the shooting was over by then. I watched fox and cnn and cbs a lot while it was going on to see who gave the most news and I don’t remember anybody else talking about a second video.

I watched 3 videos. One guy recorded behind his blinds. Some girl recorded it. And someone who was standing outside recorded. I seen them on face book. If I see them again I’ll try and post it but its possible maybe the videos were taken down.

I watched fox the first couple days then cnn and headline but only saw the 1 video, got tired of watching it after that so the only thing I know is what is posted on facebook.

Either way, the police dash cam should show the whole incident, right? lol

If the vehicle was pointed in the right direction yes it should have. The thing that makes me wonder was all the news I saw all said the same thing, the officer was beat up pretty good before he fired his weapon but they never showed a picture of the officers face.

In the other St Louis murder recently, the officer stated that the victim came at the officer with a knife in an overhand motion. this was said before the officers knew there was video. The video definitely shows no overhand motion. So who is lying on that one. Also on both murders the officers have dash cameras. any other time something happens the cops release all the information (including video)asap. But never when its officer involved. think about it, you remember one.

I’m surprised more media coverage hasn’t focused on the 2nd St. Louis shooting. You are absolutely correct about that non-existent “overhand knife grip”. I failed to see any knife in his hand at all, so if it was there, it must have been a small knife. Those cops stood there with guns drawn and waited to execute the man. They had plenty of time to deploy a Tazer or switch positions around their vehicle, and even warn him with a gunshot near his feet if they truly didn’t have Tazers.

Peter, I dont know how to get it through that head of yours but law enforcement agancies will not allow warning shots because they have to account for all bullets, what goes up must come down and if their warning shot hits someone they are responsible. Your constantly saying a warning shot or shoot them in the leg just shows anybody that actually knows what they are talking about that you are just all talk.

@Philly-No one but a fool would use a overhand knife grip. That is a B.S. opinion and reason.

No, I think law enforcement has been repeating that as propaganda over and over again trying to establish it as protocol standard procedure in the minds of the public. I call bullshit. It’s perfectly logical and reasonable to require law enforcement officers to fire warning shots into the ground or near the feet of would be attackers. This whole bit of “center mass” shoot to incapacitate bullshit has gone far enough. The military is paid to destroy. Cops don’t get that luxury.

@Philly-trying to change the world again are you? It won’t work, and I will tell you if anyone comes at me or mine with intentions of doing us harm they will not need a ambulance. I will empty my pistol right in their midsection with at least one round for the head.

Yes, yes LVS…we all know about your fantasy dream.

@Philly-Not a dream at all.

Philo: I think the news media or police dont want it publicized cause the revolt will move to another neighborhood.

all we will ever have is hearsay because of no cameras. I have copied a quote from an article about the cameras in Ferguson. “The city of Ferguson can afford tear gas, rubber bullets, tactical vehicles, and a militarized response to peaceful protests–but one thing they just can’t afford is the installation of dash cameras they already own”. recordings sounds like a simple solution to many different situations. So why are the police baulking at the installation?

I will be giving the Sheriff’s department of Cerro Gordo to include me in their ranks. On September 23rd I will be taking the Civil Service Exam followed by the Physical Exam, as well as turning in my application to join the force. I believe I can offer a much needed injection of fresh ideas and approach to law enforcement within North Iowa. Wish me well.

An accidental omission occurred…my apologies. I meant to write : I will be giving the Cerro Gordo Sheriff’s Department a CHANCE to include me within their ranks. 🙂

Although I could be considered an unconventional applicant, I think they should give me a chance to prove to them my wisdom and judiciously fair and even handed approach. The people of Cerro Gordo will benefit from such an addition.

Do you have a degree in criminal justice?

I have a degree in wisdom. Don’t need a degree to be hired as law enforcement deputy or officer. Upon hire they send you to academy at Camp Dodge.

Are you sure about that, I know you can be a reserve officer but I think, not 100% but 75%, sure you need a degree to be fulltime.

Positive

If a paper route is too much for you, what makes you think the sheriff’s dept is within your skill set?

You are totally out of touch with reality if you seriously feel you are qualified to become a member of the CG Sheriff’s Department. How may times have you bastardized Sheriff Pal’s on this site? I make this prediction; You will fail the basic exam for becoming a CG Deputy and from now till hell freezes over, you will piss and moan (non-stop) about how corrupt the Sheriff’s department is/was because you didn’t make the grade. Give it up now before you publicly embarrass yourself….again.

You are mistaking me with Iowa Sucks. I’ve never written anything bad about Sheriff Pals. But politics is irrelevant to the functions and duties of the job. There is a Civil Service Exam, followed by Physical Exam: situps, sit and reach, pushups, 1.5 mile run (14:49). Then you turn in your application and wait to be interviewed if you pass all the tests. It’s worth a try. Let’s see what happens.

You are not competent to become a law enforcement officer. No matter how you slice it, you will not make it. Need you be reminded that you couldn’t even finish a paper route? Based on your past posts, I have assessed that you are incapable of taking orders from a superior as you seem to think you are the only one who knows anything. For the sake of the general public and your family, please don’t embarrass yourself or them any more than you already have. Please….

You can pass all the tests and do well on the interview and still not get hired, the final say belongs to Pals. The fact that you do not have a degree in criminal justice will probably be a strike against you, especially if there are others applying that does have the degree.

Well, I just did 18 pushups in far less than a minute, so I have that covered. I haven’t run in a while, but I usually was around a 9 minute mile. Need to do less than 14:49 for 1.5 miles. I’d like to know how much time in between the physical tests elapses because going straight to the situps (29 required) from the pushups (18 required) gave me difficulty. I’ve been told to sit and spin a few times, but sit and reach at 14.3 inches? Not even sure if I understand how that is measured.

And Buzz, how does one “finish a paper route?” If you mean did I finish delivering each morning for the 10 days I did it, yes, I finished every paper perfectly. If you mean finish the one year contract I was expected to sign…I never signed that contract and was within the 10 day trial period. I didn’t mind the paper route, but I think my talents and skills should be better applied in other areas…wouldn’t you agree? Honestly though, I should really become a LOBBYIST.

The time between physical activities all depends on how many people are taking it. In the military there would be no less than 2 minutes between the pushups and situps.

TEN WHOLE DAYS!!! Is that even a full pay period?

@Philly-you can take the exam if you want (can’t hurt) but I doubt you will get the job. Lots of people with law enforcement degrees and working experience from smaller towns will apply too. I am willing to bet they would take one of them before someone with no experience. Besides, the trouble with posting on these sites is that it is public and people know who you are and what you believe. No disrespect intended, just telling it like it is.

I post anonymously so assumptions about identity aren’t allowed. Irregardless, what makes you think anything I’ve posted would disqualify me from gaining employment in law enforcement? I think a lot of you make an awful lot of projections and assumptions against others that make sense to youselves but aren’t grounded in any legal reality.

Many people pass the physical tests but not the psychological tests. From what I have seen in your posts I don’t think you will pass besides when you were running for office you used this name so almost everybody here knows who you are and what you believe, strike 2.

Please elaborate as to what “writing” you think would disqualify me from law enforcement, and why you feel that way.

You don’t have the right attitude for the job. Let me ask you 1 question then. Say you drive up to a crime scene and on the other side of a river you see 2 men fighting and 1 starts hitting the other with a baseball bat. What do you do?

Maybe ‘ that’s an easy answer. Drop your weapon. Put your hands behind your back. Then taze them oh about 15 times!

Radio in for backup. Flip lights and sirens on, with warning squelches, shine floodlight (if dark). Use external PA to yell for assailant to DROP WEAPON AND STEP BACK. Assess depth of water–If too deep, exit vehicle, draw weapon and shout for assailant to again DROP WEAPON AND STEP BACK. Keep weapon trained on assailant. If assailant begins to move in for another attack, assess clearance in background off to assailants side, and fire warning shot if clear. If water is shallow proceed

across river. If assailant begins another attack, hold position in river, train weapon on assailant, yell GET BACK AND DROP WEAPON, if within acceptable range within my skill set (50-75 feet) fire upon assailant erring to side of caution on attacker’s side. Upon reaching shore, continue to keep weapon trained on assailant and look for signs of complicity to commands. Within range tazer assailant, and proceed to move in to cuff. Ambidextrousness helps at this point.

Peter that was a wrong answer, that was the only question I got wrong when I took the test. The one getting beat, his life is in immediate danger so you just shoot the other guy. That was the answer given to me by the sheriff.

Now the above scenarios are if I am confined to a 9mm handgun only. If I have a .223 scoped rifle in the back. Take all steps with bullhorn, radio backup, lights and squelch, but fix scope sights on assailant and warn using PA loudspeaker to DROP WEAPON AND STEP BACK. Put assailant in sights. If assailant begins making another attack, shoot warning shot off to attacker’s side. If he fails to stop, aim for hip mid section area and fire.

I guess we have procedural differences then. This of course depends on whether it is a sustained and brutal attack by the assailant with the bat, or if it was one hit, with threats and loud yelling. If the assailant is continually beating the man, then with .223 scoped rifle, I would shoot in midsection legs first, and if shot fails to stop attacker, follow up with back, chest, midsection.

Like I said before, you are totally ignorant when it comes to firearms. Firing a warning shot gives the suspect a few more seconds to kill his victim plus the ricochet just might kill an innocent bystander. The answers to the questions you would know if you went to the academy but they ask you the questions before you go to the academy.

You mentioned they were “across a river”, so I’m presuming they are in some sort of park or wilderness area. You didn’t mention whether it was day, evening, or dark. I disagree that someone isn’t entitled a warning shot. Semi Automatic weapons fire as fast as you can pull the trigger. I claused that if the man was violently beating the other man in a sustained attack, then YES, I would shoot center mass, high chest to head, (assuming the victim was down on the ground)

Maybe: anything you know or learned, I could know and learn also…possibly at a faster rate of assimilation than you. I’m merely entertaining your scenario off the top of my head, sitting in a chair writing on a laptop. You speak defensively as if you feel threatened that someone like myself could ascertain and encroach upon what you believe to be some sort of “closed fraternity of similar minds”. Obviously infiltrating and shedding light on your fraternity is what’s needed.

Thanks for the entertainment!

This is pricless entertainment folks.

A tin-foil hat wearing, paranoid conspirorist, right-wingnut and a delusional, out of touch with reality wackado, debating proper law enforcement procedures.

One thing is for sure, neither one of these two should lay awake at night wondering if they will be contacted by Mensa.

Proper police procedure? I think that’s what’s open for debate given all the murders by police that have been occurring across the United States. So you show up to belittle people with your funny names, with an anonymous name? What’s new? “Stupid is as stupid does” as Forrest Gump said. It’d be funny to see you one day facing an indictment because the police procedure you thought was so righteous, turned out to be unacceptable in the light of day. I’d laugh.

I worked for the Yavapai county sheriffs office for 5 years when I left to join the military so I took and passed all the tests.

Philosophus, you do not need anyone to belittle you.
You do a fine job of that all by yourself everytime you post.

But you are almost correct on one thing, and that is laughing.
Because you are most certainly laughable.

All based on YOUR perceptions…of what’s right, true, sane, normal, etc. You judge and assess me, with full access to my thoughts and views (because I write), yet you only squib off dribbles of insults and accusations. I’m not afforded the opportunity to exam your thoughts, feelings, views. It’s all so one-sided isn’t it? So easy to come onto a blog and tell someone THEIR THOUGHTS ARE INSANE without putting your own views and thoughts on the table for others to review.

And unless you are a paying member….. its all free! I tune in several times a day. Beam me up Scotty.

Well, it certainly will prove your mental instability.

I wonder if you will be subject to psychological test also.

garanteed

I certainly hope so. Psychological testing is my specialty. It’s very easy when it comes to psychological assessment: are you non-violent and believe in protecting the peace from unwarranted abuse, harassment, or intimidation? Do you love life and protect innocent creatures? Do you believe in and practice protecting the environment from pollution? If so, you are psychologically well.

Those questions will not be asked and if they were you answered them wrong.

I wonder if spelling tests will be administered?

Phil I don’t think your corrupt enough to join the Law Enforcement around here.

Now that could certainly be the truth. I would hope not. We will see during the hiring process. Very good point Terminus. You’ve demonstrated precisely the type of revolutionary thinking i encourage: to turn the eye of moral scrutiny back upon they who draft or enforce the rules, not out of insubordination, but for clarification, rectification, and also exemplification.

U do realize you have to go through a mental health evaluation as well as the physical agility etc.. Good luck makin it thru the mental exam..

I really have to smile when people make statements like you did out of spiteful certitude. Can I ask what criteria you are using to draw your conclusion? What makes you think you’re so correct about my mental health? Is it just a feeling you get? Do you think a person should be incarcerated or medicated based on your “feeling”, or perhaps you feel people should just be shot, or discarded? It’s interesting how you form what appears to be conviction. I think you just like to laugh.

Enclosed is a ruff draft of my resume – Philosophus

EDUCATION: Graduated in the top 86% of my class.
EXPERIENCE: Watered, groomed, and fed the family dog for years
INTERESTS: Bagels, Ballpoint pens, Ponies, Hammocks, Dolphins and Disney Princesses.
COMPUTER SKILLS: I love Paint! And I am usually available on NIT
PERSONALITY TRAITS: Boring, creepy, enthusiastic, sleepy, and awkward.
REASON LEAVING LAST JOB: What job?
SUMMATION: My mom says I need a job

And I deserve that because I don’t want to be harassed by loud, illegal tailpipes and want to protect the peace and quiet of the neighborhood…and that I wanted to do something about it…including trying to seek employment as a law enforcement officer so I can do the job others refuse to do? You feel the need to anonymously taunt and stab me anonymously for trying to make the world a better place? I’m curious as to why you mentioned Hammocks? (dead give away) Brutus.

Be careful driving in the South Part of town this morning. Viadocks flooded on South Federal and probably at Cenex Station. Water over the road on 6th S.W. by clinic. Chelsea Creek is out of banks. Part of the roof on Walmart in the southeast corner of the building has fallen in.

sounds like the walmart building is unsafe. I wonder if Phils roof has fallen in?

@Anonymous-probably flooded at least.

Phil sustained heavy water damage and a head injury as he was boarding the Ark. That’s what made him this way

CNN is literally cleaning house against all those racist, homophobic, murderous law officers down in St. Louis County. I love it. Missouri is going to finally get all these losers out of their police force. A GIANT BEAM of light and truth is being shone upon them. This is EXACTLY what I’ve been saying about the police forces across the United States. Philosophus is a beacon of truth and light, and a stalwart against the ignorant forces that make up the authorities. I AMAZE myself

I literally deserve a medal for my work enlightening the people of North Iowa on what’s really going on. Perhaps you all will reward me by electing me or appointing me to a position of authority. Seriously, all my writings and revelations are literally coming true before your eyes. I want to cash in. I deserve to be recognized for this.

You deserve what you earn.

I don’t know if you deserve a medal but I do know you need a swift kick in the a$$. You are lumping all cops into 1 category. You open your mouth 1 too many times and you might get sued.

“I deserve to be recognized for this.” Your dreams have come true as most of us recognized a long, long time ago what you are. I think its been pointed out to you many times as well. As far as the medal you deserve…why not make it from the remainder of your tin foil hat???

Bull Crap, the guy was a thug and was beating the hell out of the cop. All the cop did was protect himself. Get off the left wing sites and try to find the truth before putting crap like this out.

Officer Dan Page went on a rant. This is endemic within police and military forces. The WRONG people have flooded security forces.

@Philly-Bull Crap-You are as bad as the people who think Travon Martin was a nice guy. They were both nothing but thugs and got what they deserved.

If every officer wore a camera at all times, NONE of this would happen. the truth will set you free. Also someone needs to kick the soap box out from under Phillo

Give him a break, the only satisfaction he gets now days is the sound of his own voice.

I hear that its in the works that ALL officers will have to wear a body camera. If you turn that camera off you are automatically GUILTY!

It should be. If the officer does not cooperate they must be guilty of something, right? I also have thought that ALL police interviews should be recorded and shown in full in the court room. this way the jury can see the truth for them self rather that what the lawyer wants them to believe.

Hey Philly-here is some information for you. the real threat to black Americans is not the police and not white people (certainly not slavery) it is violent crime. Study’s show that most blacks believe that. In the fabricated demonstrations this week against police on 40 people showed up at the White House and only 20 people in DesMoines, Boston and Denver. You are way off base with your claims. You need to get up to speed with the real world.

He says he is not a liberal but liberals don’t care about facts all they care about is emotion and since that’s all peter cares about that tells me that he is a liberal that sometimes sees with open eyes but not too often.

As a religiously dedicated and most fervent FOX News viewer, you have very little credibility when it comes down to commenting on what people take for facts.

So, the question one must ask is:

Does watching Fox News make you stupid or does Fox News just attract stupid people?

@Anonymous-If you are talking about me, I read it on Google this morning. Of course if you can’t read and can only mouth off putting people down I can see where that would be a problem for you.

At the most I watch fox news around an hour a week total. From what I have seen, fox news tells the truth maybe 75% of the time when all the other stations combined tell the truth 25% of the time so you can watch what you want to watch, just don’t come down on me for what I watch.

Sorry, maybe, but that last comment of yours caused a little laugh to escape my lips.

You need to flip your percentages. Thank you.

@JMO-Going to disagree with you here. I think maybe is correct. I know Yahoo deletes and changes story’s and ABC and NBC are famous for it. CBS seems to be somewhat better but MSNBC is so biased and one way I won’t even watch them anymore. Now, truth be told, I have caught some on FOX News (especially Duecy) in the morning that are just as bad as the others.

We’re all biased when it comes to our own party, so of course we’re going to notice the negative slant some networks will put on the party we favor. I happen to like MSNBC. I guess that makes me a liberal. But I try to get along with everyone.

Actually, Fox News only tells the truth 18 percent of the time and is also the news channel watched by the most uninformed people in the country.
And that pretty much falls in line with the comments by some on here.

Watching Fox News for actual truthful reporting is akin to watching WWE for real wrestling.
But then, the demographics are more than likely the same for both.

Ron, but they ARE informed. They’re informed about every single word or act that comes from anyone who has a power position in the Democratic Party. And then they turn it completely around or take it out of context to put the ol’ righty slant on it.

and I suppose all you people out there that think I am crazy also thinks that the economy is getting much better because that’s what all the news stations say, except for fox.

Strange there was no response from Philly.

His mom probably turned the internet off at their house until he cleans his room and brushes his teeth

Hey Phil Why don’t you dig out your tin foil cap and coat hanger antenna and try to contact the saucer that dropped you off. Tell them the experiment didn’t work out as planned.

I guess Matt must have missed this one. It is on Mason City Police Scanner and happened about 9:00 PM last night. There were 40 to 50 people fighting in the street at W.State and N. Madison last night. Right in the middle of the Cultural Crescent again. 20/25 that were fighting in the street took off running when they heard the police cars coming. When are we going to say enough and run those imports out of our town. They have turned that area into a ghetto.

That area of town is getting worse and worse. Mason City itself is getting worse with violence and crime. And we don’t have a strong enough police force to handle it all. Sad. I grew up in Mason City and remember a time when we didn’t lock our doors. Now it’s not only locking your doors but not going to certain neighborhoods even if you are in your car.

@anonymous-I would be real careful driving through the center section of town after dark.

Why don’t you and your good old white boys march down to Russ Hardy’s shop and tell him directly you want these guys out of town? He’s the one who is sponsoring them, along with a few other landlords. You’re calling for more police? Why? So you can militarize them and exterminate unarmed black people in the streets like Ferguson? Have some balls man, go down and confront the white people who are TRULY responsible for this occurring.

@ Phil, we agree on most issues, so don’t be upset with me, please. But do be careful in what you suggest. Mason City has a lot of good old white boys (white supremacists) who think just like Todd Blodgett. If even 3 or 4 of these KKK types took you up on your suggestion, it could result in more murders. From your friend, Laker Forever.

@Laker-I am pretty sure they know where you live by now too. Be very careful.

LVS you throw around these insinuations of some secret network of white supremacist tough guys. I’m not scared of any of any of them, including the so-called bikers. Quit with the thuggish crap. You’re not a tough guy either remember LVS? So stop playing the cards like you are.

@Philly-I was not talking to you. Mellow out.

Im talking about verbal confrontation or perhaps the 3rd degree. No one is suggesting harming anyone.

people were probably arguing over the statues

Isn’t that just a block east and south of the old Sids? Didn’t know that part of town was considered the “Cultural Crescent”

It wouldn’t do any good. The Mason City police would never touch Eric. In Mason City there are the elitists, and the poverty stricken, and of course middle class. If you are an elitist, then the rules of the game according to the police department are different than those of others. I am middle class. We work hard, live payday to payday and keep food on the table. Never have had any assistance of any kind.

I had a minor incident with the police, while I was in a neighborhood on the north end. When I challenged the officer, he told me to call someone “influential”. And if I lived in Asbury or Eastbrooke or even had the incident in one of those neighborhoods, I wouldn’t have had any issue. This is the way Mason City is, who you know, where you live, and who you are….are the police department is extremely discriminating!

So as far as our mayor having any issues with the police, it isn’t going to happen. He is above the law, along with the elite in town. If you’re like me, there’s no leeway, and if you’re poverty stricken, you are a target.

Yes Matt, unfortunately this is 100 percent true. I am at a crossroads as what to do about it. If I call the chief of police, I’m sure no action will be taken. And I will probably make a lot of enemies on the force. I am considering the Iowa Attorney General and getting some advice as to how to handle it and who to talk with at the state level.

@anonymous-It has always kind of been that way in this city, but has gotten much, much worse in the last five years. Ever since Bookie came to town.

Ah Phil, take your ball and go home? Just confirms my judgment of you as a prissy, or now that you have breached the taboo, a boot licking pussy. Regarding the Ferguson affair you are just another armchair quarterback.

Grizz it’s becoming obvious that you must be some dumb shit cop or deputy that works for a local law enforcement agency. You guys come out of the woodwork to try and attack me. You hide behind anonymity though, and that’s what sucks. You should be forced to reveal yourselves so people could see the kind of idiots working in our law enforcement sector. If you’re not a cop, then you’re one of those cop suck ups…a giant brown nosing kiss ass, and that’s worse.

Peter, you just said “You hide behind anonymity”, isn’t that what almost all the people on here is doing? I would be happy to put my real name here if everybody else did. You are losing it man.

No I’m not losing it. I’m just glad to see all the lies coming to the surface. Police in America, along with the Military need major revision, and overhaul. They no longer represent the status quo. They’ve been running goose wild for a very long time, and they are inherently racist, corrupted, and non-inclusive. Plus, their war against drugs needs to end as well. America should never have approved Slavery. Karma is coming to overtake all of you.

After seeing the video of the St. Louis police shooting of man “brandishing a knife”,The Chief of ST. Louis police (Dotson) kept repeating that the shooter had said “shoot me, kill me now”. ??? So that justifies police shooting what looks like an unarmed man? Why no tazers were used is the million dollar question? I think the police in St. Louis area qualify as homicidal maniacs. Clearly new individuals are needed to enlist in the force…people such as myself.

Honestly the focus on Ferguson should also spill over to St. Louis. That shooting of the man with the so-called “overhand knife grip” (Yeah right!) is just as outrageous as the Michael Brown shooting, if not more so. Clearly those dumb ass white cops could have used a Tazer. They had plenty of time. They just wanted to kill someone. They literally lured him into their kill zone by not taking action earlier while he was further away. SICKO murderers.

Peter I read the article and saw the video on that shooting in St Louis, the guy had a big knife and after yelling shoot me, kill me he charged the cops. This police department doesn’t have tasers so they kept telling him to drop the knife. After charging the cops they waited till he was 4 to 5 feet away before they shot him. Something else you don’t know what you are talking about I see.

I’m so sick of apologist defenses for homicidal cops. BULLSHIT. They could have easily shot him in the legs or knees. If those cops cannot hit someone in the legs or arms from that range, they don’t need to be working as police. Even warning shots into the ground may be enough to startle him into sobriety. Those cops simply waited until he got close enough, then shot to kill. Cops are really revealing themselves to be a bunch of numbskull pussies.

It is postings like this one peter that tells us that you don’t know shit about guns. If you have someone coming at you at a fast pace, could you hit a 3 inch target on the move with a 1/4 inch bullet? I was a shooting instructor in the military and on the army rifle pistol team and I couldn’t do that. Police and soldiers are trained to shoot for the largest part of the body, center mass. Stop pretending you know what you are talking about.

And it’s responses like the one you made which tells me YOU don’t know much about non-lethal management of situations, and shouldn’t be working as a soldier, cop or any position involving use of lethal force. Where was the Tazer shot? Where was a lowering of their weapon to diffuse the man’s aggravation? Where were warning shots into the ground? Where were lower shots into his legs? Semi Automatics with 15 round clips? 2 cops training their guns on suspect and no other options?

Maybe, the long overdue reform of police forces across the nation is on its way. We’ve seen from living here in Iowa and Minnesota a large number of these deadly police shootings occurring. For some reason police forces have been recently approved to shoot center mass and shoot to kill straight on, and that needs complete revision. This wild west scenario that many gun enthusiasts dreamed of needs to end. It used to be police would do everything they could to talk someone down.

phil@ you have zero idea wtf your talking about. as usual.

what about pepper spray, just wondering?

I don’t normally watch fox news but they do tell the truth more often than not but I watched it tonight because of Ferguson and they interviewed Mark Thurman, former LAPD cop and what he said was that right now we all have hours to discuss what the cop should or shouldn’t have done, but the cops have a fraction of a second to decide what to do.

Cops have plenty of time to decide what to do. Those cops in St. Louis stayed in a fixed position with their guns drawn and trained on the pissed off black guy…they waited until he came into their allowable kill zone, and they murdered him, in broad daylight, and in front of people who were recording with their cellphones. It was cold blooded audacious State sponsored murder. Those 2 cops are even more contentious than the Michael Brown shooter in my view. KEEP RIOTING ST. LOUIS.

For which part maybe? Care to be more specific? (It’s with a heavy and guilty heart maybe is up early on NIT, because he knows the great PHILOSOPHUS has struck many truthful chords within his own being, and he seeks to cleanse himself of his own longstanding iniquities, false views, and mental obstructions). Maybe has come to the right place. Spiritual Advisor Philosophus is capable of conducting this HIGH COLONIC MENTAL CLEANSE for maybe, and many others in the viewing audience.

You are certifiably insane. It bothers me how you can judge someone because they didn’t do what you, out of ignorance, wouldn’t do yourself. You don’t know what was happening, what the cops were thinking what their training is or even how to shoot a gun period and yet you judge them because they do. If it wasn’t for the fact that I know something that you don’t that will bite you in the ass so bad, I would leave this site just because of you but I won’t because I want to see you squirm.

Maybe, you operate in the monotheistic singular, with a myopic ‘torch in cave’ view. You haven’t learned how to ZOOM OUT and see the world from the perspective beyond your immediate upbringing, church, community, family, culture. While it may be comfortable for you to operate in such an environment, I have zoomed out, and I possess a much clearer and healthier viewpoint of the limited cultural fondness you trap yourself in. For you, loud pipes are as normal as a spring rain.

I’m glad this is happening in St. Louis and Ferguson, because it brings to the forefront what I’ve been saying for weeks, months and years: That the American Race situation has never been resolved, and that white cops control everything, and they are inherently racist and closed minded. I’ve been calling for a rotating police force for a long time, and it’s time to get the citizens involved with their own policing and management. Ferguson is about 70% black w/ 83% white cops.

Judge: So, he came at you with a knife and your life was threatened?
Defender: Yes your Honor.
Judge: Why did you shoot him 8 times?
Defender: Because the 9th time my gun went “click”!

Any firearms training class, military, police. civilian: They say IF your life is in immediate danger you fire till the threat stops. If that means you fire once or 100 times, you shoot till the suspect goes down. If you don’t agree with that then you are totally 100% ignorant about firearms and should keep your big mouth shut.

Amen to that!

Double amen maybe@

They are trained to keep on shooting until the threat is gone. Not sure I totally agree with that but I guess it is better than having police killed by these thugs.

No Phil, you are ANNOYING. If you don’t want your remarks to be quoted don’t post them in the first place. In the short time I’ve been here you have anointed yourself as the go to guy for legal knowledge, political expertise, rifle ballistics, racial harmonics and sexual dynamics. Did I miss anything? By the way, let me thank you for being here. Every school yard needs a prissy mama’s boy to kick around. You fit the bill perfectly.

Grizz, you’re on IGNORE.

Hey Phil,if whatever your smoking is so good it makes YOU want to join the gestapo, sign me up for at least a pound. No, make that 2. Or more.

Phil, why are you so offended when someone challenges you on a remark you have made? I know you fancy your self as the next Socrates so learn how to debate on the merits rather than just crying when presented with a superior argument for which you have no foil. You just can’t concede when you are in the minority, can you? If you would drop the bravado I think people would be more likely to listen to the positions you take, despite how provocative they may be. You have a lot to contribute

Now this may come across as shocking, but I see now from watching the Ferguson crisis that a need for honorable, reputable, intelligent, and morally oriented police officers exists, and I’m considering applying for the Iowa Law Enforcement Academy.

Consider your self triple dog dared.

I promise you all, the moment I get licensed as a law enforcement officer of the state of Iowa, I will begin arresting individuals for violation of State Code 321.436. And if I’m chastised by the Chief or rank superiors, I will continue to arrest them bringing charges before the County Attorney. If I’m fired, I will sue the piss out of the department, and raise a stink the state hasn’t seen since Branstad’s TROOPERGATE.

You won’t do anything.

You got that right, all talk and hot air

Hahahaha, whatever.

You will have to get hired somewhere first and that could be a long shot. Thought you were going to law school. Your goals must have changed.

What really needs to happen is a new position needs to be created called Noise Enforcement Officer (NEO) and I need to be appointed by the Governor to head it. Not sure why the Motor Vehicle Enforcement Division of the State Patrol isn’t handling the excessive noise, but I do know, it’s because most all the cops are part of this pathetic corrupted “brotherhood” that desperately needs shaking up. In fact the tree of that so called “brotherhood” probably needs to be cut down.

ever hear of ear plugs peter, we are all sick and tired of hearing you complain. I have to admit here that YOU are getting close to running me away from this site with your complaining.

“I’m considering applying for the Iowa Law Enforcement Academy.” You can buy badges on eBay. Knock yourself out. Again, hahahaha, whatever.

Hey Phil, you seem threatened. You state “Grizz, I don’t even know who in the hell you are,or why you showed up.” and “Out of nowhere, Wendingo, maybe, Big Country, and now apparently “Grizz” show up to taunt and badger me.” Does this mean I need to be a life member before I can post? All I hear in your arguments is incoherent babble about things you either don’t like or don’t understand. As a side note, Iowa code does not recognize the castle doctrine or have a stand your ground…

memo to Grizz: reposting other people’s comments is ANNOYING. While Iowa formally may not have a Castle Doctrine, they do have a provision that allows a person to defend themselves in their home using deadly force if they genuinely believe their life to be in danger, after any reasonable attempts at escape are exhausted.

I’ve ridden a Harley for 35 years. Loud pipes don’t bother me. What does bother me are the guys who stop for a red light and think they have to rev their motor. Back when all bikes were carbureted some times you needed to give them a little blip so they wouldn’t kill. In these days of fuel injection you would need a really crappy bike to need to do that. So it’s just for the attention. Mostly they are younger riders only trying to be cool, but it still annoys the hell out of me.

I hear all the loud exhaust terrorists out there harassing the population. What sickos. And the AWOL coward cops hide from them out of embarrassment for not doing anything. All so Jim Boehnke can enjoy his beloved tavern The Other Place, where he feels nostalgic. Isn’t it nice we all get to suffer so Boehnke can cherish beloved memories of where he met his wife?

This seems to be standard operating procedure for these self centered narcissistic Republicans. They only think of themselves and their limited microscopic terrarium they live within. As long as Jim Boehnke doesn’t care about loud exhausts, then to hell with the thousands of other people this jackass is paid to represent who do find them terrorizing. These guys can’t see past their Red Ryder BB guns they grew up with. Nelson Crabb was a teacher? That thought makes me shudder.

I was a student of Nelson Crabb and thought he was a fine teacher and coach.

@Phil “Now if you go back and read my comments carefully, (not sure if you’re smart enough to comprehend) you’ll possibly understand the Catch 22 situation I’ve presented. Stop acting like a moronic imbecile. Grow the hell up when you talk with me.” Whats up Phil? First you attack my manhood then you attack my intelligence. Perhaps a little projection problem pardner? Tit for tat. Go back to the Minors.

Grizz, I don’t even know who in the hell you are, or why you showed up. I made a post pointing out discrepancies in the law concerning long distance ballistics technology and Castle Doctrine. Out of nowhere, Wendingo, maybe, Big Country, and now apparently “Grizz” show up to taunt and badger me. I guess it’s like flies landing on a fresh cow pie in the heat of the summer…guaranteed to show up.

@Phil “Grizz, or Big Country, or whatever you go by…I thought I made myself clear to you the last time you started acting hillbilly and unruly? All you are doing is attacking and harassing me, and you have no points to make other than to agitate me.” Yup, how smart of you to figure it out. What’s next Sherlock? Go tell mom?

Hey Phili, where have you been? Haven’t struck up an argument with you in awhile. I don’t have much to say on the gun issue. I used to trap shoot when my dad was alive, but haven’t shot a gun since. I don’t own a gun and I think they let too many idiots own them. I do have a wrist rocket though, keeps the bratty neighbor kids out of my yard.

And I guess I’d recognize you by your white silhouette? Who are you? What was the last topic we argued about?
