“I’m glad the Natural Resources Commission took action this morning to protect Iowa’s wildlife — especially eagles, pheasants and song birds — from ingesting toxic shot, which can dramatically reduce populations,” said Representative Sharon Steckman.
“I have been working on legislation next year to ban toxic shot. This is a step forward for our environment and will keep natural habitats free from toxic shot.”
Iowa’s first dove hunting season is scheduled for September 1 and will last 70 days. Shooting hours are from one half hour before sunrise to sunset each day and the daily bag limit is 15.
