2011 MacNider Arts Festival: Art Safari!

Mason City, IOWA – On Saturday, June 11, the lawns of the Charles H. MacNider Art Museum and Mason City Public Library will turn into an African safari for the 2011 MacNider Arts Festival. The one-day, Art Safari! themed event takes place from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Admission is free.

Festival kicks off with a free pancake breakfast sponsored by the Cerro Gordo County Association of Independent Insurance Agents from 9:00 to 10:30 a.m., or until supplies last. Also opening at 9:00 a.m. is the Art Market, featuring over 30 different local artists. Visitors can purchase original jewelry, pottery, metal works, photography, yard ornamentation, and more.

Festival is fun for all ages, with a dozen free or low-cost kids’ activities. Children can turn everyday items into masterpieces, such as paper tube binoculars, paper plate lions, and popsicle stick picture frames. Each activity provides an opportunity for kids to create something unique.

Throughout the day, live music will fill the air. A full roster of exciting and entertaining artists will perform, including Paul Christian, Sara Kay, Sugar Daddys Jazz Band, Central Standard Time, the Mason City Municipal Band, and Kalimbaman.

This annual community event would not be possible without the help of numerous volunteers. If you are interested in helping for an hour or two – or even all day – contact Michelle at 641-420-1451. It is a great opportunity to earn volunteer hours for organizations and meet new people.

Festival will be held at the Charles H. MacNider Art Museum, rain or shine. It is located at 303 Second Street SE, Mason City. Find out more by visiting the Museum website www.macniderart.org, or get up-to-the-date information on the Museum’s Facebook page.
