The public is invited to a meeting to discuss the reuse of properties purchased as part of the Flood of 2008 voluntary buyout in Mason City. A short overview of the project ñ including legal constraints on the reuse of floodplain property ñ will be presented at the beginning of the meeting. Maps of 9 buyout areas will then be available for review and comment. The larger neighborhood areas to be considered include:
Parker’s Woods/West Park (4th ñ 6th Streets NW, west of N. Jackson)
N. Connecticut/N. Elm Drive (north of 12th Street NE)
10th – 11th Streets NE (along east side of Winnebago River)
Oak Park/N. Maryland (7th Street NE, N. Carolina, N. Hampshire)
2nd ñ 3rd Streets NE (Norris Youth Softball neighborhood)
Meadowbrook Drive (along west side of Cheslea Creek)
Ideas and concerns about the reuse of these properties are needed. Ideas already proposed include dog park, sports fields, community gardens and letting areas go ‘back to nature’.
