North Iowa Fair to be downsized

The North Iowa Fair Board has decided to downsize the annual North Iowa Fair in 2011.

According to the meeting minutes from the Visit Mason City Executive Committee, the Visit Mason City staff has been helping the fair board finalize a budget, action plan and forecast revenue / expenses.

It was also reported by a board member that the North Iowa Fair will downsize to a 4-H fair only. It was not clear what activities or events would be eliminated.

This announcement comes in the wake of recent fair controversies that include dwindling attendance at the fair, questions about the quality of the fair and its attractions, and a former fair manager that was arrested on November 19, 2010. Police investigators found that former fair manager Wanda Kruse was in possession of approximately $3103.21 worth of property at her residence in Rockwell, IA that was purchased with North Iowa Fair Association funds.|
