A southbound driver on I-35 near the 197.9 mile marker ended up in the ditch last Friday, December 17.

According to an Iowa State Patrol report, eighteen year old Leanna Lynn Powell of Fort Dodge became distracted while driving at 2:01 AM and drifted onto the east shoulder of the highway. Powell then over-corrected and slid sideways across the roadway. Powell’s 2002 Pontiac then entered the west ditch and struck an embankment.

The vehicle was severely damaged in the accident, suffering over $4000 in damage. Powell was wearing her seatbelt and was uninjured, but received a citation for failure to maintain control.
