Rep. Todd Prichard: It’s time to reverse Republican attacks on workers

TUESDAY, MAY 2, 2017

Rep. Todd Prichard
Today, Governor Branstad had his confirmation hearing to become an ambassador, and Lt. Governor Kim Reynolds came one step closer to becoming Iowa’s new governor. But everyday Iowans are still wondering whether she’ll stand with us.

Governor Branstad, Lt. Governor Reynolds, and Republicans in the legislature launched an unprecedented assault on workers and working families this year, proudly calling it “historic” as legislators rolled their rights that were put in place more than four decades ago.

I believe Iowa’s teachers, firefighters, corrections officers, police officers, and public employees deserve our respect. They deserve the right to organize and demand fair working conditions.

If I’m elected, I’ll not only fight to defend the rights of working people at every step of the way — I’ll sign an executive order to reverse Republican attacks on workers on my first day. But Iowans shouldn’t have to wait. Soon-to-be Governor Reynolds should take action as soon as she takes office.

Now is the time for Lt. Governor Reynolds to show whether she stands with workers, or with out-of-state donors and Des Moines special interests. If you agree, tell Lt. Governor Reynolds to roll back her party’s attacks on workers: https://www.toddprichard.com/action/tell-reynolds-reverse-republican-attacks-on-workers/

Iowa can and must do better — and that includes our elected officials.

While the Branstad-Reynolds administration fights for the largest corporations in our largest cities, I am committed to growing wages for families across the entire state, particularly in smaller communities like my hometown of Charles City. That can only happen if we empower working families and restore their voice in the workplace.
