Speechwriter apologizes for using Michelle Obama’s lines in Trump speech

CLEVELAND, OHIO – Meredith McIver, an in-house staff writer from the Trump Organization, has released a statement regarding Melania Trump’s speech from July 18th, 2016, at the Republican National Convention in Cleveland, Ohio.

July 20,2016

TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:

My name is Meredith McIver and I’m an in-house staff writer at the Trump Organization. I am also a longtime friend and admirer of the Trump family. In working with Melania Trump on her recent First Lady speech, we discussed many people who inspired her and messages she wanted to share with the American people. A person she has always liked is Michelle Obama. Over the phone, she read me some passages from Mrs. Obama’s speech as examples. I wrote them down and later included some of the phrasing in the draft that ultimately became the final speech. I did not check Mrs. Obama’s speeches. This was my mistake, and I feel terrible for the chaos I have caused Melania and the Trumps, as well as to Mrs. Obama. No harm was meant.

Yesterday, I offered my resignation to Mr. Trump and the Trump family, but they rejected it. Mr. Trump told me that people make innocent mistakes and that we learn and grow from these experiences.

I asked to put out this statement because I did not like seeing the way this was distracting from Mr. Trump’s historic campaign for president and Melania’s beautiful message and presentation.

I apologize for the confusion and hysteria my mistake has caused. Today, more than ever, I am honored to work for such a great family. I personally admire the way Mr. Trump has handled this situation and I am grateful for his understanding.

Matt likes lying ted -lying hitlery – etc

If you know my posts, you know I am not a Donald Trump fan. However, this whole thing is b.s. Let it go. We have more important things to worry about than whether Melania’s speech was plagiarized. She has said she admires Mrs. Obama. Cool, that is more than some of you fools would admit. If she does become the first lady, she seems to be the type who would emulate Ms. Obama and acknowledge that the job of First Lady is a tough, often thankless one. She also has handled the criticism well which is another characteristic she shares with Mrs. Obama. So, move on. Let us hear how her husband is going to ‘revive’ our economy because nothing the Republicans have said so far remotely reveals any policy plans for anything. All they can do is talk about Ms. Clinton, President Obama, and each other.

I agree

The speech writer is a registered Democrat. Enough said.

She also is a close friend of the Trump family and has been for over 15 years. She helped the Donald write 4 of his books and is honest enough to admit a mistake. Enough said.

From here on forward let it be known that the demoratic party has changed it name to the S P A M party and all donations must be addressed as such. Kasich and the cruisin Cruz have already joined this effort.

Mr.michelle took her speech from a book written in 1992 – something to do with african government. By the way matt I did not know you were a politically correct person until I seen your edits.

Sounds like a crock of bullshit to me. We spoke of people we admired “…….so we take their speech and think we can relate to it? Just one more idiotic thing in politics. The Republican party should be ashamed this year. Good lord.

The Democratic Party should be ashamed for existing. But, that won’t be for long. Go Trump. Make America Great. Deport all Democrats.

Originally, plagiarizing was trying to profit from someone elses words or work, just saying a speech and saying some words that someone else said is just that. It is so stupid of democrats and republicans of trying to start a scandal for borrowing words. The only thing that is even more stupid is you trying to encourage people to look as stupid as you are.

You commenting on someone else looking stupid is priceless David.
It is a toss up some days between you & LVS as to which one of you can make the most idiotic comments.

And, you are a charter member of the Dumb Ass Club. Dumb Ass.

David has more guts and brains in his little finger than you have in your whole body, troll.

Would that be that stupid old man Larry that lives on N Jefferson?
That guy is a feeble-minded old relic that belongs in a home.

Yes indeed! Uncle Larry VS. He now posts under Anonymous alot. But you can tell it’s him by the childish insults, name calling and third grade grammar and logic.

Sure, video by Zachary K Hubbard exposes everything scripted by the practice of #numbers/gematria, numerology, https://youtu.be/kRAH0Z_26o4

First of all, I am about as far from a Trump supporter as one can get.
However, Melania Trump’s speechwriter acknowledged the mistake and there it should stay.

I find it intriguing that Melania Trump, in expressing her ideas to the speech writer, expressed admiration for Michelle Obama.
That is unique in this day & age and for that I give Melania Trump a thumbs up.

Her husband could take a few lessons from her.

It sounds more like a sweep under the rug to me.

Lets be real she copied lines from Obamas speech and if it were the other way around Trump would be yelling bloody murder. Now that everyone is aware of this its time to move on.

She sounded like a real person. Not like telepromter Obama.

She sounded like Ava Gabor in Green Acres. Oliver, dahling!

Her voice coach should apologize. She sounded like a telemarketer from a third world country.

Don’t you know broken English is the new official language of the U.S.? Better learn it amigo.

She has lived in US for 20 years, you would think she would speak English better. Yesterday they were ALL saying it was NOT copied, pehaps from My Little Pony… What a bunch of jokers/liars!!! Melania “I wrote it”
