MASON CITY – Alex Kuhn, a Mason city council member, has passed away, NIT regrets to report.
According to information relayed to NIT by law enforcement, Alex Kuhn was found south of Charles City in a rural area, deceased.
Alex Kuhn was 34-years-old with two sons. He was serving his second term on the Mason City council.
Alex Kuhn was a graduate of Iowa State University and was working for Henkel Construction as Business Development Director. He was an avid tennis player and helped coach little league baseball. He took pride in working hard for the citizens of Mason City and put in many hours of work on issues that would benefit the community.
Everyone is going through the grief process. Anger is part of that process. Please be considerate of others feelings before lashing out. Please be supportive of those people most deeply effected by this loss. Please. Whatever the backstory. Give it some time to develop.
There is a place and time for this discussion. Pleases consider feelings other than your own in this matter. Breathe, just breathe. There is a proper way to handle this issue……with respect for Alex and his family.
I can tell you many people in Mason City are super f—ed up. Something very odd is going on. It is a NORMAL and HEALTHY inquiry to make, as to why and how, a young, well-liked councilman would put a gun to his head in a remote rural setting, and pull the trigger on himself…yet there seems to be a legion of people trying to stop this inquiry. ??? Shaming, brow beating, tongue lashing, insults…all follow anyone who dares to simply ask: WTF happened? That is NOT NORMAL. Something is going on.

Self infected gunshot. He killed himself. Now, one has to ask why a young man with a bright future would do that?
Clearly, you don’t understand depression. Think of the worst physical pain you can imagine, and then think of feeling that way emotionally. The physical pain can usually be relieved by strong pain killers. Antidepressants take up to six weeks to start working. Who can stand intense emotional pain for that long, especially when the person is afraid that relief will never come? The pain just gets to be too much to handle. They can’t even think about the people they’re leaving behind. It’s too overwhelming.
I understand it just fine. I have several relatives that suffer from it. But, normally there is something that is the cause of it. Money, job or someone picking on them. Then of course we have the ones that are just plain crazy like Lagios.
I will never believe that Alex Kuhn took his own life, someone murdered him and are making it look as though it was self inflicted.

I heard the Mayor and Hickey had been treating Alex very bad and even bullying him since his no vote, also Robin Anderson. I heard those three can be very nasty people if they don’t get their way.
With Alex being gone, the people most qualified to guess his wishes would be his immediate family. His father said in not so veiled words that the Prestage Death Palace had taken a great toll on his son, but also that it would have been Alex wish that we forgive and move forward together. I think a lot of us are struggling with hatred towards likely antagonists like the people you mentioned, but after all that Alex did for us, we owe it to him to respect his wishes, which means forgive and move forward, hard as it is.

Mason City has lost a great man. My heart hurts for his family, as they have lost a father, brother and a son. He saw the best in everyone.
Sad to say the authority’s are investigating his death. That opens up a lot of questions.
It is known how he died.

I think there are really strong arguments to be made as a society to banning these types of forums, as too many toxic, unaccountable, anonymous individuals are allowed to launch vitriolic attacks without consequences. I’ve seen it discussed here about switching to a Facebook login, which would theoretically put a name on the comment. I’ve always been for such a system. I’m not sure why the editor continues to allow the smut and junk.
You have a choice not to read the comments, just as you have a choice to turn a T.V. channel, or a radio station channel or turn it off, if you do not care for it, other people need to have that freedom of choice also in expressing their views.
Everyone I know, knows where and how he died. The family needs their privacy to deal with this tragedy. Please show some respect.

This was a man who stood up against other city council bullies for the sake of everyone in this community. I would guess the bullying continued even after the vote. He stood up for us. I hope as many as possible show up for his funeral to thank him for looking out for the little guys. I wish I had thanked him afterwards… What an honorable man.

If Adam was murdered, it had nothing to do with pork plants or water contamination – Adam beat the hell out of some construction workers in from Chicago renting in Nory and threw them out. They almost killed my grandfather a few weeks later who was in his bar that night because of what happened. No police were ever involved and my grandfather who knew their identity is now deceased. BOOM. There it is. Now move along conspiracy theorists and people who have no idea what they are talking about. But that is neither here nor there, because he was piss drunk and was driving intoxicated. What happened was not a murder. Losing a loved one is painful under any circumstances, and I was deeply shocked and saddened to hear of the tragic death of Alex. I offer my thoughts and prayers for him and his family.
