MASON CITY – An Iowa legislator vying for a U.S. Senate seat stopped in Mason City Tuesday evening.
U.S. Senate candidate (D) Rob Hogg of Cedar Rapids was in Mason City to attend the local Cerro Gordo county Democratic party meeting at the county courthouse.
Mr. Hogg (pronounced hOHg), 48, is serving his third term in the Iowa Senate for district 33 after previously serving as a state representative. He is looking to unseat Senator Chuck Grassley in the November 2016 elections, who has been in the Senate since 1981 and Congress since 1975. Mr. Hogg will first have to win the Democratic primary (which will be held next year) against two other Democratic challengers.
Mr. Hogg completed a short 7-minute interview with NIT Tuesday evening prior to his meeting with Democratic party supporters, touching on his reasons for running for higher office, the challenges facing Iowa and the United States, foreign adversaries, and more.
