MASON CITY – This ain’t Mayberry anymore. Lock your doors is essentially the message police conveyed in a news release sent Friday morning after at least three burglaries were reported.
The incidents took place in three separate areas of the city. Police said that after midnight, three home burglaries were reported. The homes were all occupied when the intruders gained entry, most-likely though unlocked doors. No one was harmed. The incidents were described as the residents heard noises such as a door open and close and went to investigate, only to find someone had just been in their house or garage.
The crimes took place at the 000 block of North Willowgreen Court, the 400 block of 7th Street NW and the 1700 block of South Kentucky Avenue. At Willowgreen Court, an electric generator was stolen from a garage. At 7th Street NW and South Kentucky Avenue, a purse was stolen from the houses.
The crimes appear to be random, a police spokesman said, but could have been committed by the same person.
“Many crimes are crimes of opportunity,” said Captain Mike McKelvey. “Take precautions to minimize your vulnerability.” He suggested residents lock doors, not to leave purses or other valuables in plan sight of windows or doors, lock garages, safeguard personal information and to essentially “be very wary.”
thats why i just leave my car doors unlocked, cause if they want in they will get in, so just leave the doors unlocked and then they wont hafta break the window out.
This is happening way to often. It is a sign of to many criminals allowed back on the streets. The damn druggers will steal anything that isn’t fastened down and steal some things that are. If you leave anything on the seat of your car (even a empty bag or box) they will break out a $400 window just to get it. It is part of our society now.
It’s turned into a little Chicago.
Why do the cops have to tell people to lock their doors? Come on people!
